American a Legion \ Baseball MCHENRY AREA INDUSTRIAL LEAGUE 12 INCH SOFTBALL Crystal Lake's strong American Legion team was too much for McHenry as they defeated our local boys 6-3 in the opening game of the season. Frick, Witt and Vitek all had two hits for Crystal Lake and Vorisek did the pitching. All 3 of McHenry's runs scored in the second inning as Kevin Worm doubled, Dave Wickenkamp singled, and Dale Urbanski hit the big blow - a homerun over the left field fence. Mitch Przetacznik, Ken Lester and Ray Williams also collected a single during the game. All the boys played well defensively. McHenry's bats were silent as Greg O'Halleran and Kevin Worm were the only hitters in the line-up. A little more practice, spirit and determination should see the team make a big improvement in the weeks to come. Jake's continued to hold a slim lead while Rusty Nail dropped down to fifth place (2VSj games out of first). The league's top five teams still have a shot at first place while Phillip's 66 has an outside chance for at least a playoff spot. Jake's Deadend Lounge remains the favorite, however they have the roughest schedule remaining if they can win their next 6 ball games they'll have first cinched. Otherwise it is up for grabs. June 13 games: McHenry Hospital and Jerry's Phillip's 66 split a doubleheader as the Hospital own game on 8 to 3 and Phillip's 66 won the second game by a score of 11 to 8. Jake's beat the Riverside Bake Shop twice, the first game a laugher, 22 to 1 in 5 innings and game two 9 to 2. The Outlaws beat Brake Parts twice by scores of 23 to7 and 27 to4. McHenry Hospital had 4 homeruns in their first game vs. Phillip's 66 as Tom Fuchs and Matt Oik hit one each and John Connell hit a pair. After 4 innings Phillip's 66 led 3 to 2, however, 2 in the fifth inning and 4 more in the seventh iced the hospital's second win of the season. In game two Phillip's 66 came out smoking as they scored 3 runs in the first inning. The hospital came back with 2 in the bottom of the first and 3 more runs in the scond to take a 5 to 3 lead. Phillip's 66 tied the score in the third and single runs in the next two innings pushed them ahead 7 to 5. Phillip's had 11 runs on 17 hits while the hospital scored 8 runs on 11 hits. Three errors cost the hospital unearned runs against them as Phillip's capitalized each time. In Jake's twin victory over the Bake Shop they couldn't do anything wrong and weak hitting and fielding by the Bake Shop did not help. Game one's score of 22 to 1 might indicate the way things went - Jake's scored 4 in the first, 6 in the third, 9 in the fourth and 3 in the fifth inning while the Bake Shop scored one lone run in the second. Game two was a bit closer, however, Jake's coasted to a 9 to 2 win, their sixth victory without a loss. A 7 run outburst in the second inning was enough to win for Jake's. The Bake Shop scored a run in the third and fourth innings which proved not enough. JUNE 26, 1974 PET CENTER This column of questions and answers on federal tax matters is provided by the local office of the U. S. Internal Revenue Service and is published as a public service to taxpayers. The column answers questions most frequently asked by taxpayers. Breakfast Reminder Breakfast should fulfill V* or more of your day's nutritional requirements. Q. Can a taxpayer who has paid the tax proposed after an IRS audit still contest the re sults of the examination? - A. Yes. You may file a claim for refund if, after having paid your tax, you believe the tax is erroneous or excessive. If your claim 4s rejected, you will receive a \statutory dis allowance of your claim. You can then go to court. If the IRS has not acted on your claim within six months from the date you filed it, you can also file suit for refund. A suit for refund must be filed not later than two years after disallowance of your claim. You may file your refund suit in the United States District Court or the U.S. Court of Claims. For information about procedures for filing suit in these courts, contact the clerk of your District Court or the clerk of the Court of Claims, 717 Madison Place, N.W., Washington, D.C. 20005. Q. I pay my mother $10 a week to take care of my child while I go out to work. Are these payments deductible as child expenses? A. No. Payments made to rel atives or dependent household members may not be included in computing the child care deduction. For more informa tion, see IRS Publication 503, "Child Care and Disabled De pendent Care." It's available free from your IRS office. Q. On April 15, I filed a 1040 1JS declaration and paid my first installment of estimated tax for 1974. I just bought a house and the deductions I hope to get for the year should greatly reduce my estimated tax. What should I do? A. For changes in your tax situation that re quire an amended declaration occurring between April 1 and June 2, file the amended declaration by June 17, 1974.
