La Leche league is the international organization which offers information and encouragement to those interested in breast feeding. The convention provides an opportunity foe parents, doctors and nurses associated with the league to share information so that they can continue to give help to mothers who turn to them. "Human Milk: An unique gift of love, a natural world resource" -- theme of the convention -- is also the title of the keynote address to be delivered by Dr. Derrick Jelliffe, internationally known pediatric nutritionist. Dr. Paul Gyorgy of Philadelphia, who for many years has diligently researched mother's milk, will speak about its unique composition. These eminent physicians are members of the Professional Advisory board of La Leche League International. Other featured speakers will include Lee Salk, PhD., Dana Raphael, PhD., Maria Piers, PhD., Glenn Doman and Karen Pryor, all noted authors in the field of child development in which breast feeding can play a vital role. Susan S. James, TV star of McMillan and Wife, who is an enthusiastic nursing mother and league member, and Niles Newton, PhD., author of Family Book of Child Care, co author of numerous papers on breast feeding and a member of La Lee he's league professional advisory board, will spotlight the banquet as speakers. McHenry La Leche league has been active for many years, and there are also several other groups in the area. Informal meetings are held in members' homes monthly to acquaint those interested in the physical, psychological and practical sides of breast feeding. For information regarding the league, call Mrs. Richard (Marcia) McGowan, Mrs. Robert (Roberta) Humphreys or Mrs. Robert (Julie) Jessup. By Grandma Ratke This ol' lady's heart jumps fer joy, whene'er me ears git tuned in on th' wonderful things some young folks 're engaged in, t' help others. There's a great need fer an in-built sense o' responsibility fer folks, other than 'emselves, s and it's accomplished in early years o' rearin' th' young, by parents who take th' trouble t' teach th' "Golden Rule." In readin' an' a watchin' th' programs on th' tube, listenin' an' talkin' wi' folks, this granny's impressed wi' a trend toward more serious attitudes or. th' pcu i u' people, in general. Seems as though there's a strong desire t' do a better job o' trainin' th' young, o' preparin' 'em fer a satisfyin' adjustment t' th' adult world. Seems t' me, in times gone by, there was more emphasis put, on what went on b'fore a youngster reached th' age o' rebellion against parent and society. When th' kiddies 're taught t' assume a certain responsibility fer other members o' th' family, they learn t' be responsbile adults in society. No one '11 git along in this world wi'out an attitude o' duty, toward th' way he functions as an adult. So, it's wi' great satisfaction, an' prate, when I hear o' a group «™oung people, engaged in some altruistic enterprise. It tells that, it stems from their up-bringing, 'r just a natural desire t' be involved in beneficial endeavor, t' aid other human bein's. In this day, o' young folks expectin't' be paid fer anythin' they might do, e'en in th' home, it's right gratifyin' t' hear o' some, willin' t' give their time in humanitarian effort. No one e'er engages in honest effort, wi'out iearnin' somethin'. It may not dawn on th' individual, at th' moment, but experience, no matter what it is, teaches a lesson. Children learn by doin', an' any amount o' talkin' can't affect th' task o' fixin' th' lesson in th' mind, like th actual doin' Doin' fer others wi'out thought o' reward, in childhood, creates concern fer humanity vin adult life. Some folks ha' developed it into a real habit, an that makes fer a gftod social structure fer any community.
