PAGE 2 - PLAINDEALER - FRIDAY, JULY 12.1974 WED RECENTLY - Deborah Lynn Adams of Hialeah, Fla., daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Edward Adams, former McHenry residents, was married recently at Palm Springs Presbyterian church to Albert Ross Garey. Mr. Garey is the son of Mr. and Mrs. E. Bart Garey of Miami. The bride, whose grandparents are Mr. and Mrs. Frank Adams of McHenry, is a graduate of Hialeah high school and Miami-Dade Community college. Relatives from Illinois who attended were Mrs. Joseph Nischan of Johnsburg, Mrs. Albert Adams and daughter, Cheryl Adams, of McHenry and an aunt of the bride, Miss Margaret Hughes, of Wauconda. Grandma Sez It sure impressed this granny, t'other day, t' hear a popular individual, appearin' on a day-time "Talk Show," felaboratin' on his own misbehavior, as a youngun. He went into descriptive details o' th' discipline, meted out by his parents, an' approved o' the woodshed methods, as bein' effective in straightenin' his deportment. Th' thing which surprised me, was th' applause, an' seemin' approval o' th' audience. Somehow, th' idea liiiiiiiiiiiiiiiimiiiiiiiiiimiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiimiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiii PARADE PARTICIPANTS AND SPONSORS A Color photo will be taken of any Marine Day Parade entry on a special order basis. Iiimiiiiiiiiiiiiimiiiiiiiiimiimiiiiiiiiiiiiimmiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiniiiiiiiiimiiiiiiia Ever since the Gold Rush Days, men in tough jobs have needed rugged pants built for hard work, with good fit for comfort. LEVI'S Blue Jeans became their uniform--pants they coukf depend on. Times have changed, but LEVI'S insistance on quality has not. It's a proud heritage, one you can count on. LEVI'S-- since 1850. 219 ,\. (ireen Si. iH.,-0182 nr Henry, III. was conveyed that many adults sanction methods o' discipline, practiced more, in years gone by. They proved effective, an' many a time, saved th' offender more serious punishment, in later life. Now, I don't approve o' habitual use o' th' hickory stick, 'r reasonable facsimile thereof, but its use, wi' discretion, at special times, has an amazin' effect. In metin' out discipline, th' benefit o' it is lost, unless th' reason is clear. Constancy, in maintainin' th' benefit, sometimes tries a parent t' th' breakin' point, but, that's what parents 're for, t' teach th' young. There's more n one way t' skin a cat, as well all know, an' there's many a method o' disciplinin' young offenders. One way, proved t' be successful in many a case, is deprivation. I've seen a whole family/ cooperate in helpin' t' correct repeated offense, committed by one member, by deprivin' 'emselves o' some pleasure. Th' effort 's wasted on a youngster who isn't affected by hurtin' others, o' course, but in some cases th' rest o' th' family cooperates by puttin' th' offender in THE HARRY WESTERBERGS VACATIONERS - Mr. and Mrs. Harry Westerberg of 3510 W. Montrose Recite Vows A lovely summer wedding was solemnized at St. Patrick's Catholic church Saturday, July 6, when Elizabeth Jane Freund, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Joseph M. Freund of 3715 W. Freund avenue, McHenry, became the bride of Kenneth J. Montrose, son of Mr. and Mrs. Sam Montrose of 2508 S. Kenilworth, McHenry. The Rev. Michael Douglas officiated at the 3 o'clock service. Special music for the ceremony was presented by organist, Mrs. Dorothy Weber, and soloist and guitarist, Mrs. Michelle Reining. Mrs. Reining sang "Where Charity and Love Prevail" and "The Wedding Song". The pretty bride wore a Victorian gown of white nylon featuring an empire bodice, tucked bib front and back edged with gathered lace, a high neckline and long, full sleeves. Lace trim highlighted the neckline, sleeves and cuffs of the gown. Her mantilla and blusher veil were accented with matching lace. She carried a bouquet of white carnations, yellow roses and baby's breath. Mrs. Kurt (Joan) Jensen of McHenry attended her friend as matron of honor. Bridesmaids were Mrs. Thomas (Josephine) Smith of Woodstock, the bride's sister, and Miss Leah Rode of McHenry, a friend of the bride. The attendants were attired in floor length, daisy print gowns ruffled and sashed with green satin. Each wore a white picture hat edged in green. They carried cascading bouquets of orange carnations, white stephanotis and baby's breath. Wesley McReynolds of McHenry served his friend as best man. Groomsmen were James Styer of Villa Park, the groom's cousin, and James Langer and James Smith of McHenry, brothers-in-law of the bride. The bride's mother wore an aqua, floor length gown and a cymbidium orchid corsage. The groom's mother chose a blue and white floor length gown and a similar corsage. Immediately following the ceremony, a reception for 125 guests was held at the McHenry Moose lodge. Upon their return from a wedding trip to St. Louis, the "Coventry," an' old-fashioned method, used in England for many years. Th' individual is isolated from conversation with others, in school, or at home, soon havin' th' desired effect, that it's important t' obey th' rules. Some o' th' old methods proved successful, in teachin' th' young th' approved conduct, in order t' prepare for life in th' adult worlds I've heard references to society, as a distasteful organized effort t' control people, interferin' wi' th' free rights o' citizens. That's not right at all, as we well know. Wi'out a society, wi' rules an' regulations, we revert back t' a jungle, to which we're fast approachin', t' my way o' thinkin'. There's a great need t' teach th' young, from th' first day o' his life, that we live wi' rules, an' wi'out 'em, nobody's happy. Discipline, 's th' word, an' it begins in th' cradle. Mr. Conrad, vice-president, advised the membership that Ms. Signa Wright will be the representative from the club at the Advisory committee meetings of the McHenry board of education high school board meetings. Ms. Wright is well qualified to represent the group, and the group was happy to hear a few words from her in respect to this representation. The program for the evening was "Ludwig" Kalbrunner, zither player and yodeler - from the Northern Chalet at Libertyville. It was a delightful program, and interesting because "Ludwig" clued members in on the history of the zither, and the technics of playing it. The club members enjoyed joining in singing along with him and even a couple of the members danced to his lilting tunes.
