Nowadays the youngsters go to learn something and for the fun of it. Pictured are some of the many activities engaged in by District 15 students over her visit with her cousins, Mitzi and Skip Gurski, and their children, Anthony and Robert, who visited the DeWitts for two weeks at the beginning of July The families enjoyed seeing local sights, visiting the Milwaukee Zoo and touring downtown Chicago. As all vacations end too soon, this one was no exception, but the Gurskies fell in love with the area and are looking to transfer to this part of the country and make it their permanent home. Well, we hope it's "good-bye New York" and "hello Holiday Hills" for the Gurskies in the near future. GRADUATION PARTY On June 30, the Catanzaro household filled with relatives and guests to congratulate Mary Kay upon her graduation with honors from Marian Central high school. Mary Kay is a National Honor Society member, received a year book award and received the president's award from Barat College, Lake Forest Among the relatives in attendance .were grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Joe Catanzaro, Sr., of Mundelein, Grandma Betty Parker of Bellwood, Aunt Mary Davis; Uncle Bob and Aunt Lou O'Keefe; Uncle Frank and Aunt Kay O'Keefe; Aunt Betti Ann and Uncle Ed Jaffe and their son, Eric; Uncle Chuck and Aunt Bea Catanzaro and their offspring, Doug and Chrissie; Aunt Pearl and Uncle Tony Cerami; Uncle Mack Galants; cousins Marlene and Gordon Matz and their children Kevin, Linda and Brian; and visiting from Florida, Uncle Jim Workman. The following day, longtime friends of Joe and Connie's', Barb and Don Ries of Pontiac, and their nine children stopped for a visit on their return from vacationing in Wisconsin. This was the first visit to the Catanzaro homestead by most of the Ries children and the visit was marred with two accidents. Nothing serious though, but a written promise for reciprocal action during Connie's visit later this summer was outlined. GIRLSCOUT CAMP OUT The final camp-out, as a group, for the summer was enjoyed by the girls in Girl Scout troop 478, from July 7 through 12, at the Lakewood Forest Preserve in Wauconda. The initial camp was begun by setting up their own tents. All meals were cooked over campfire, they even learned dutch oven cooking by preparing a baked ham. The girls enjoyed hiking through the wildlife sanctuary, and on one of their expeditions they found a very large snapping turle, which must have been quite old as it was about twelve inches in circumference. Survival training was learned by picking wild berries (mulberries and raspberries) and catching, cleaning, and cooking their own fish over an open fire. After weathering a thunder and lightning storm in their pup tents the girls were prepared for anything. It was such great fun, nt) one wanted to leave. The*girls who attended, thus completing many badge requirements were Chris Connell, Angela Catanzaro, Cindy and Doreen Rasbaugh, Noreen DeWitt, Cheri Bruser, Val Priko, Suzie Bielski, Diane Brechel, Kiki Hughes, Kim Ha milton, and Jeanna Koeppen. Thanks to Mimi DeWitt, Marge Connell, and Connie Catanzaro who chaperoned; also to Colleen Priko who with her younger daughter, Terri, spent a night, and to Kitty Hill who made cupcakes for everyone to savor around the campfire. GET-WELL WISHES There have been several accidents per day at the beach last week and the trusty first aid kit was on overtime duty. Hasty healing to Roy Maras, injured hand, to Brian Thietje, who spent several days in McHenry Hospital and then managed to cut his foot severely enough to require stitching, and all the band aid sporters in the vicinity. Strasburg, Virginia LIFE IS FULL OF QUESTIONS One of the most common we spell with just three letters, W-H-Y. As children we want to know the reason for everything. Why is snow cold, or sugar sweet? We grow into adoles cence and the question is usually linked with restrictions: Why can't I? In maturity there are more and greater prob lems to solve, troubles and disappointments to overcome. And still we ask the age-old question, "Why?" The Church knows our questions and our problems and invites us to come, bringing them with us. In the Church we find new friends. Many of them have known sorrows and disappointments and through their faith have found'courage. They will inspire us to try again. Still more important we can learn to know the Christ. In His Divine wisdom He holds the answers to life's questions. In His love He invites all who need His help. « *f IIM I I ^ I HOW WHY WH. ^ WHY WHAT HOW W. WHAT NOW WHY WHAT B IO* HAT HOW wm VHAl .
