Realtors Make 55,000 Grant To Historical Unit History was "in the making" and simultaneously dipping into its past when the McHenry County Board of Realtors generously voted a grant of $5,000 to be given in segments to the McHenry County Historical society's rooms restoration at their new home in Union. The Board of Realtors, made up of realtor members and associates of the majority of McHenry county real estate firms, felt that since they were recipients of monies for the transfer of McHenry county real estate properties, they would reciprocate by sharing with the county's past "land pictures and properties". The board wanted to say "thank you" to those who preserved and enriched the past to bring about a happy, thriving present and future. "The Historical society's preservation and restoration of McHenry county's enriching past is good groundwork for a colorful future for us all," remarked Elmer Graham, president of the Board of Realtors. The Historical society's program of restoration, spearheaded by Mrs. Dorothy McEachren of Woodstock, a tireless worker since the beginning of the work, and others on her board, is a non profit organization with a current membership of some 600 members. Its membership is open to all residents of McHenry county and other interested persons. It now has some 6,000 artifacts that it has acquired over the past nine years of operations. The society in 1971 purchased an abandoned school building in Union, and has developed plans for its renovation into a Historical Museum as is outlined in a currently available brochure. For further information on any details or plans to visit the Museum, call the office in Union at 815-934-2267. Public interest is greatly appreciated.
