Rusty Nail plays the Riverside Bake Shop for what should be a victory and third place. However, the Bake Shop hasalreo ay been the spoiler for the Outlaws. The other important matchup is Phillip's 66 vs. Brake Parts. A win for Phillip's is almost certain versus a winless Brake Parts club and would give them a 9-7 won-lost record tying them with McHenry Hospital. This will force a one game playoff to determine who plays against first place Jake's in next week's semi-final playoffs. However, if Rusty Wail should lose and Phillip's 66 win there would be 3 teams tied at 9-7 forcing a round-robin double elimination tournament! At any rate it looks as though the playoff dates scheduled to begin on Tuesday will be moved back to Thursday. Games played last Thursday included Morton Chemical's big win over Brake Parts, 23 to 2. Swanson Chalet came from 10 runs down to beat Riverside Bake Shop 13 to 10. In an important game for both clubs Phillip's 66 lost a 9-6 decision to Rusty Nail, while Jake's came up with 6 runs in the eighth inning to win 20 to 15 over McHenry Hospital and continue undefeated Standings after last Thursday: W L Jake's Dead End Lounge 15 0 Swanson Chalet 12 3 Rusty Nail 9 6 McHenry Hospital 9 7 Phillip's 66 8 7 Outlaws 7 8 Morton Chemical 4 11 KlXXER STARTS FRIDAY Walt Disney Program "OLD YELLER" AND 'THE INCREDIBLE JOURNEY" CHILD 75c - ADULTS 1.75 Skate-A-Thon At "lust For Fun Rink" The "Just For Fun Roller Skating Rink" at McHenry, 111. has been selected to participate in the 1974 Skate-a-Thon to benefit Muscular Dystrophy patients. Players are coming back home from distant parts to take part in the game. McHenry has some Old Timers who played against some of those players and may want to attend the game to renew old acquaintences -- and have some fun. Now for our lottery tickets and on our way to a life of ease. Our White Sox are giving us fits. We talk it over daily with Walt Freund and wish the two of us could manage that team. We have ideas, but the world will never know what we could do. That Oakland team seems to have all the ammunition. Looks like we won't know the results of that Watergate mess until Christmas. Three or four months of that may be beyond our endurance. Just when our tongue was hanging out for some sweet corn, Bill Haurie came along _SP0RTS EDITOR I with some nice ears. That butter should do something for our waistline. 0 The best one we heard about the recent hot weather and the drop in temperature came from Marie Becker who told us: "I woke up last night -- cold - and was glad'" Had a call from a high school student wondering when football practice will start. Told him we would print the information as soon as release comes in from the athletic department. Such eagerness to get started sounds good. Fred Meyer spent a vacation week at the Krause cottage on Green Lake, Wisconsin. Did he catch fish! Now he is drawing a map for 'Torchy" to show him just where to drop his line. THINKING BACK -- An old Irishman from McHenry moved to Chicago (50 years ago) and came back to visit. Telling about the wonders of the big city, he opened his eyes and said, "In some of those foinest hotels in the city, they changes the sheets after every guest.' * Riverside Bake Shop 4 11 Brake Parts 0 15 Ed Raske led Swanson Chalet to their twelfth win of the season as he hit safely 5 times and increased his team leading batting average to .627. Ray Franklin and Gary Fields hit safely 3 times each while Bob Freund batted in 4 runs with a triple, single and sacrifice fly. Bill Blankenhorn hit a 2 run homer while Vic Freund knocked in two with a double John Little led the Bake Shop with 4 hits including a solo homerun. Russ Weyland had 3 hits while Schmitt, Cameron and Bryce Klontz hit safely two times each. After 24 innings the Riverside Bake Shop held a big ten to nothing lead but the Chalet came up with 13 runs spread out between the third and 7th innings while shutting off the Bake Shop for 6 straight scoreless innings. In a game which was very important for both teams playoff hopes Rusty Nail won a close 5 to 6 decision over Phillip's 66. The Nail's Gary Schmitt went 4 for 4 including a pair of doubles; Dennis Schmitt and Bill Comstock added a homerun apiece, while Gary Busse had two important hits A1 Elliot came up with the defensive play of the game with a diving stop of a grounder heading up the middle The Rusty Nail second baseman made the throw from second to McHENRY YOUTH LEAGUE FINAL STANDINGS MINIS YANKS BRAVES CUBS PIRATES SOX TIGERS INDIANS GIANTS Leading Hitters: Braves Mike Nank Braves Jim Wynveen Braves Rob Mortell Sox Mark Cochran W L T 1 3 - 1 - 0 1 2 - 1 - 1 7 - 5 - 2 7 - 6 - 1 4 - 8 - 2 4 - 9 - 1 1 - 1 0 - 3 0 - 8 - 6 .655 .630 .579 .545 AVOID THE FALL RUSH SWITCH HOW TO GAS HEAT McHenry State Bank Youth League SOX. Your local yokel entertainment was hilarious end a Phillip's 66 threat in the final innings. Jake's won an exciting come- from-behind ball game versus the Hospital 20 to 15. Errors again hurt a good McHenry Hospital team as a slim 15 to 14 lead vanished with 6 Jake's runs scoring in the eighth inning, 2 key errors helping the winners Morton Chemical won their fourth game of the year as their hitting showed a big improvement with a 23 to 2 victory' over Brake Parts. © SH0WPIACE 1 & 2 0NR0UTM4 JUST WES!
