PA(ifc 18 • PLAINUbriLER-FKIDAY. AUGUST 16. 1974 Holiday Hills Karen Kottke 385-6675 Property Owners Plan Picnic For Entire Family "Pack up the babies, and bring the old ladies..." recognize that phrase? It's from a tune by the Credence Clearwater Revival group, called "Brother Love". Borrowing a bit from the song, we'd like to invite everyone to pack up their families and bring them to the Holiday Hills Property Owner's Association picnic on Sunday, Aug. 18. The forecast promises a beautiful, sunny day, whether or not the elements comply with this forecast, our workers will be bright and sunny during the day's operation. Bring the entire family for a fun filled afternoon enjohing game booths, hay rides, boat rides, cake walks, and a new feature this year the younger set are sure to enjoy, the "Moonwalk". There will also be food and drink for everyone's pleasure. The directions are simple- just point your nose West on Sunset drive and follow the road to the river. The event begins at noon and most attractions will continue to operate until 9 p.m. We hope to see an enormous crowd linger until dusk creeps over the frivolities. Relax and enjoy the festivities and at the same time you'll be aiding our anemic treasury. LITTLE LEAGUE AWARD PICNIC The final event of the season for the Little League of the Lakes took place on Sunday, Aug. 11, at the new Island Lake Park. The League's president, Larry Thompson, officiated. Awards were presented to the first and second place teams and their managers. First place trophies were presented to Bill Holmes, manager of the Island Lake Water Co. team, the Braves. Each member of the team received a smaller trophy. Trophies for second place standing were presented to the Police Department team members and to their manager, Scott Lundelius. The first and second place team trophies will be on display\at the respective Island Lake businesses. Awards were presented to three boys whose salesmanship produced outstanding results with the decal drive. This drive POETS CORNER WHAT IS TIME, GRANDFATHER? Time is a grandfather, holding his grandson on his lap.... telling him stories from yesterday, when he was young.... full of adventure, dreams and play. When his mind was young, his body was strong.... when he felt, there is no mountain he could not climb.... all this, my grandson, is time.... When I married your grandmother, she was the prettiest girl in town. When our first child, your father, was born and we became parents, so happy and proud. He brought us so many joyful hours... and when his sister, your aunt, was born... he ran into the house and gave his mother a big bouquet of beautiful, wild flowers. Our children grew up, happy, strong and free they were surrounded by love... from your grandmother and me... My little girl became a fine young lady my son, a tall and handsome young man. ...And one day, it was in early spring, he brought your mother home... they walked together, hand in hand.... One year later, I think it was summertime you, my grandson, came into this world.... a new cycle of life had begun.... and all this, my grandson, is time.... The cycle of my own life, will close someday when my time on earth comes to an end... and you my child, will slowly walk away... to find your wife... Then you will walk together, again, hand in hand.... for time is everything, it is life. .. by Maria Heiser Viscounts enables the league to replenish their equipment each year. The award for selling the most decals went to Tom Parrish and second place was a tie between Allen Rowe and Jimmy Kottke. Awards were presented to all the twelve year olds in the league, recognizing their participation and graduating them into the Senior league. This was a highly productive season for the Lakes Little League and much of the credit belongs to those folks who comprised the club officer roles and the team managers and coaches. Of course the boys on each team displayed the best of their abilities at each game. Laurels to the Little League of the Lakes officers: President- Larry Thompson; Vice- President-John Nitka; Secretary-Sandy Bettancourt; Treasurer-Grace Leich- senring; Player Agent- Tony Alfieri; and Publicity Chairman-Ken Coats. Many thanks to the managers of the teams whose guidance and instruction were invaluable to these boys this year; for the Island Lake Water Co. Braves team manager, Bill Holmes; for the Police Department team manager, Scott Lundelius; for the L&M Builders team manager, George Baird; for the Lions Club team manager, Bud Williams; for the Carpet Discount team manager, Bob Sonne; and for the J&L Gas team manager, Jerry Cairo. BOWLING NEWS The Women's Thursday night Handicap League will be rolling its final games on Aug. 15. Some of these gals are bowling like a house afire. On Aug. 8, Velma Garrelts rolled a 205 to become the league's number one high game scorer. Congratulations, Velma, it appears as if twelve weeks of bowling has improved your game considerably. HOSPITAL ROLLS Get-well wishes to Dee Wegener who is confined to McHenry hospital while undergoing a series of tests. Hope to see you up and about soon. BIRTHDAYS Birthday greetings to Allene Drew on Aug. 17; to Val Tannert on Aug. 20; and to Charlee Gueths on Aug. 23. By Bob Wiles and Sandra Betancourt The past two weeks the corps has been preparing for the Illinois State Fair competition to prepare our show to be performed on a race track only half as wide as a normal competition field. Wednesday, Aug. 7, the corps marched in the annual Lake Forest day parade. We will be appearing in the Cary and Algonquin parades on Saturday before leaving to appear in Momence Saturday evening. Our good friends, the Kankakee Blackhawks, are housing us before we leave for the State Fair. In the past weeks, if you heard some different music coming from the American Legion, it wasn't from the Viscounts. It was from the Southern Rebels of Metaire, La. The Rebels are on a twenty- two day tour and ran into some housing problems. The Viscounts recognize Glenn Messer and all the people of the American Legion in McHenry for showing these Southerners what Yankee hospitality is like. Next year the Legion national competition will be held in New Orleans and the Rebels have said they will do twice as much for the Viscounts in return for our help and hospitality. Something new as of Monday evening will be the acquisition of a passenger bus and will enable the corps to travel more and in a little better comfort. Monday evening was the Booster club meeting with a little better attendance. Remember to save those bonus stamp coupons that can be turned in for redemption to Mrs. Anderson, 6 N. Heather, Crystal Lake, 111., 60014. This week's Viscount of the week is Patty Salas. Patty is the girl who proudly carries our American flag. Patty doesn't have a nickname but she will have if she ever drops The American flag in her one- handed presentations. Remember, next month is the election of officers at the Booster club meeting. If you haven't been getting the notices or minutes of the meeting, just call Sandra Betancourt, Kathy Harris or Melinda Adams. You don't have to be a parent to be a Booster. We meet the first Monday of every month at 8 p.m. in the American Legion on Ringwood road. If you would like to vote for our new officers, you must have paid your dues.
