AUGUST 21,1974 Seven Sisters * Attendants For Miss Doherty Colleen Doherty was attended by her seven sisters when she became the bride of Randy Jackson in St. Patrick's Catholic church Saturday, Aug. 17. They repeated their vows before Rev. Edmund Petit at the 3 o'clock Mass in a church decorated with floral bouquets of pink and white flowers and pew decorations of bows and candles trimmed with greenery. The bride's brother, Joe Doherty, and Michael Sharp were acolytes. Musical selections were presented by solosits Candy Jones and Scott Curry, along with the guitar group from St. Patrick's parish. Jay Doherty, a brother, gave the readings. The bride is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Donald P. Doherty of 1410 N. Green street,. McHenry, and her bridegroom is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Ronald Jackson of 711 S. Jefferson street, Woodstock The petite, dark haired bride, chose a formal length gown of white polyester crepe designed with a Venice lace bodice, empire waistline, full sleeves, A-line skirt and a detachable chapel length train. Her cathederaT length, illusion veil was attached to a head band of matching Venice lace. She carried a bouquet of pink roses and white carnations. Celeste Doherty attended her sister as maid of honor. Other attendants were Cynthia, Christine, Carolyn, Connie, Cathy, and Carmel Doherty, also sisters, Aimee Jackson of Woodstock, the groom's sister, and Judy Herdrich and Cindy Bolger of McHenry, friends of the bride. The attendants wore flocked pink gingham halter dresses featuring high necklines, A-line skirts and matching capes. They had white picture hats trimmed with large bows of pink gingham. Each carried three pink roses. Bill Jackson of Woodstock, served his brother as best man. Groomsmen were Robbie and Jay Jackson, brothers of the grooom, Jay Doherty, the bride's brother, and Patrick Gummerson, George Meyers and Chuck Flood, all of Woodstock, and Paul Ward of Elmhurst, friends of the groom. Ushers were Mark Gummerson and Tom Miller. For her daughter's wedding, Mrs Doherty chose a pale pink, floor length gown and a pink and white corsage. The groom's mother wore an aqua, floor length gown with a matching jacket and a white corsage. Immediately following the ceremony, a reception was held at the American Legion home for 265 guests. Upon their return from a wedding trip to Canada, the young people will make their home at 341 S. Madison street, Woodstock. The newlyweds are 1970 graduates of Marian Central Catholic high school, Woodstock. The bride received a Bachelor of Science degree in Education from Alverno college in May, 1974, and will teach third grade at Valley View school, McHenry, this fall. The groom attended University of Wisconsin- Whitewater and Rock Valley college, Rockford. He is employed in the construction business. MR. AND MRS. HAROLD J. STILLING, JR. BRIDAL COUPLE -- Mr. and Mrs. Harold J. Stilling, Jr., were married Aug. 10 at the bride's home in Fort Atkinson, Wis. She is the former Christine Martin, daughter of Mrs. Lyman Martin. A family camp-out will be held Aug. 23, 24 and 25 at the Pleasant Valley farm in Woodstock. Many activities are planned for members of the Smile chapter and their childrerf.'The regular general meeting will be held Friday night at the camp ground. The unique feature of the meeting is that all the children will be able to attend. A dance will be held Saturday night. Live music will be provided. Other highlights of the weekend will^ include campfires, s^ng-a-longs, hayrides, volleyball, hiking, fishing, swimming, games, good food and fellowship. The regularly scheduled general meeting Aug. 16 was postponed in order that it could be held at the camp-out. The next general meeting will be held Friday, Sept. 6, 8:30 p.m., at the American Legion in Crystal Lake. This statement by Albert Schweitzer reflects the thinking which motivated the formation of the Illinois Citizens Concerned for Life. The Crystal Lake branch of ICCL will hold a meeting Thursday, Aug. 22, at 8 p.m. at St. Mary's Episcopal church on McHenry avenue. Those who would like to discover a way to express their "pro'life" convictions are invited to attend the Thursday meeting. At one point on the way another rig had to come and take half the load as the horses couldn't handle the entire band in one conveyance. There are twenty-eight members in the band. It was thrilling to hear the applause from the crowds of people along the parade route as the band played. Shouts of "Hi, McHenry" -- "McHenry you were great" - were certainly- beautiful music to the ears of the members and a thrill to long be remembered. The plaque received at the finish of the program will be a treasured possession of the band, and they are all looking forward to receiving the notification from the Fair which will come by mail, along with the award check. An honor was also won by Julia and Harold Therens of the band, as they were awarded the ribbon for being the most recent newlyweds over 60 years old. Members were happv to learn that a picture of the local band was in the Chicago newspapers, and that it was featured for about five minutes on television while*1 Governor Walker made his speech All in all, it was a memorable experience. The bus left McHenry at 8 a.m. Thursday morning, and arrived in Springfield in the early afternoon after a stop for lunch After checking into the motel the group took a bus tour of Springfield, seeing all the points of interest, then back to The McHenry Senior Citizens club band returned home last weekend with the praise of many still ringing in their ears following their State Fair appearance. The band was very happy and enthusiastic when they left McHenry by bus Thursday morning. The events that followed at the fair proved to make their hopes and wjshes come true-that they could bring back honors for McHenry, the club and the band When the band arrived at the State Fair grounds Friday morning, Aug. 16, members were delighted to be greeted by Bert Welker and Mrs. Welker as they got off the bus. Bert Welker was the first president of the McHenry Senior Citizens club, and was in office when the . kitchen band was started. McHenry was second on the kitchen band competition program. During one of the numbers, Governor Dan Walker and his lovely wife, Roberta, arrived at the tent where the kitchen band competition was being held, and at the conclusion of the selection, Leader Dolly Mazzarella had the pleasure of shaking the Governor's hand and introducing the Governor and his wife to the audience.
