PAGE 6 - PLAINDEALER - WEDNESDAY, AUGUST 21,1974 . Lakemoor-Lilymoor Alma Hueckstaedt 385-5689 A/ Ryan Takes Over Office Of President \ Former Vice-President, A1 Ryan, has stepped up to the presidency of the Lilymoor Association, upon the resignation of former President, Fred Fradinardo One of Al's first duties, as president, will be to make a revision in the future plans pertaining to the grading and plowing of roads where there ate no members. A1 has been a resident and member of Lilymoor for four years with his wife, Marilyn, and now their new baby, Killeen. Mr. Fradinardo resigned as president because of moving out of this subdivision. ASSOCIATION RELATED NEWS There has been a low attendance recorded for the association, and I'd like to remind everyone of the time and day of the meetings. They are held on the second Tuesday of the month at 8 p.m. The home of the Bleichs at 319 N. Glenwood avenue is the meeting place. I've heard a lot of complaints about how things are done or not done. The best way to get something done, I'm told, is to do it yourself. I guess what I'm trying to say is there are openings in the association for vice-president, secretary and treasurer. The only thing required of you to become one ' of these officers is to be a resident of Lilymoor. There is no need to have a previous background in one of these fields. To say the association needs new blood is putting it mildly. Once you've paid your dues, you automatically become a member. So why not attend the meetings? It is your right and more so. your duty to attend the meetings, air your views and voice your opinion if you've got a gripe How else can the officers do their jobs if they don't have full support of the members0 Now that A1 Ryan is the president, why not attend the next meeting"? It's an evening out, a way to meet your neighbors and fellow members. It's also a night away from the kids. We want the new members to attend, to learn what the association is about, and we'd like some of our old members to come back to the meetings. I think the president deserves the support of the members -- that's YOU! How else is he going to know what areas need priority attention if you're not there to tell him? In these days of Women's Lib it is not unlikely to have a woman vice-president. To uphold Men's Lib why not a male secretary or treasurer? These jobs are open to anyone - so ladies -- ever think of being the first lady vice-president?? All you've got to do is attend the meeting and nominate a friend or volunteer yourself! Why not?!? LAKEMOOR VILLAGE MEETINGS The meetings for Lake moor are held on the second and fourth Thursdays of the month at the municipal building at 234 Rand road. The time is 8 p.m. JUNQUE SALE The junque sale for the village of Lakemoor will begin at 6 p.m. on Friday, Aug. 27, and will run through Labor Day, Sept. 2. If your plans are not complete for the Labor Day weekend, why not include going to the sale and looking over the great bargains. Remember, proceeds of the sale will go to the Civil Defense Unit. Something we can all benefit from. FORMER RESIDENTS The former president of the association and his family recently moved out of Lilymoor to a new home in Cooney Heights. We all wish them well and bid them happiness in all their endeavors. GOOD CITIZEN Roy Tobey gets the good citizen award of the community for a good deed he did last week. It seems Mr. Tobey found a baby rabbit tied up in a box. He untied the bunny and checked it to be sure it wasn't injured before letting it go. What a cruel thing to do to a defenseless animal. If you know any one that gets a kick out of doing this sort of thing -- why not talk to him about it and warn him of the dangers to the animal that may result in a needless crippling or death to one of nature's creatures. Thank you Mr. Tobey for this small but significant contribution to nature. HOSPITAL NOTES Get-well wishes for a speedy recovery to William Broker who was in the McHenry hospital. We hope by this writing, that you are now at home and on the road to mend. Mr. Broker is the brother-in- law of Chris Bleich. VISITORS Former residents, Larry and Shirley Schuerr, spent some time last week visiting old friends. They were here on vacation from Scottsdale, Arizona. Some of you may remember, Shirley used to write this column. It was good to see and visit with old friends. IN CLOSING I'm still waiting for some phone calls about you readers doing this column. Certainly, there is someone who knows how to type and talk on the phone. If you can't reach me, call Cherie Mumma at 385-1982. I'd also like to take this time to remind you to attend the meetings of your respective subdivisions. Remember, the officers need your support to do the good job you expect from them. See you next week. Church Launches Big * Fund Raising Campaign On Sunday, Aug. 25, St. John the Baptist Catholic parish in Johnsburg will hold its first annual parish picnic. There have been picnics before, but the church is now setting forth a systematic method of having many different parish affairs. Parish Activities at St. John's in recent years have tapered off quite a bit. This is now changing. Many in the MeHenry- Johnsburg area know the church is in desperate need of repairs and restoration. No major work has been done for at least twenty-five years. The building needs a minimum of $500,000 worth of repairs and restoration both in the exterior and interior. Much time and study has been given this huge project for the past one-and-a- half years. A program called "Operation Fact Finding" was conducted over the past six months among parishioners. Their thoughts and comments were solicited in the form of a questionnaire, resulting in their overwhelming opinion to restore the present church. The parishioners know the great amounts of money that will be needed to undertake this huge project of raising one half of a million dollars. The Parish council membership voted on the following method for fund raising. A. Weekly parish games to start this fall. B. Outright donation envelope system to be instituted Sept. 1, 1974. An acknowledgement plaque will be placed in the rear of the church. C. Well organized parish activities numbering eight separate affairs over this 18- month program starting with the parish picnic Aug. 25. D. To construct an entirely donated $50,000 house and sell in November, 1975. A great deal of time and effort will be given in this project which can result in a large amount of money for the campaign. St. John's needs all sorts of help, prayers, and moral support from both parishioners and neighbors in the surrounding area. The actual starting date on the repairs will begin when one-half the money is raised for the outside repairs. from HISTORY'S SCRAPB00K DATES AND EVENTS FROM YESTERYEARS Babe Ruth, famous American baseball player died on August 16, 1948.
