EASTWOOD MANOR'S FAMOUS SWIMMERS McHenry West campus swim team ended Aug. 2. Laura Clewis ended the season with twelve ribbons, her best stroke being the butterfly. John Clewis won twenty-four ribbons which consists of seventeen first places and seven second places. Laura and John can hardly wait for next summer to work again with their very fine coach, Mike Shannahan, and they hope Coach Pam Shaffer. Good luck to both Laura and John in the many, many, seasons to come. SOFTBALL Jerry Bellak's 12 inch slow pitch softball team from Jerry Phillip's 66 and Car Coin Wash center played two games in the best out of three with Jake's. The first game they lost 26-8. The second game on Tuesday night, Aug. 13, they came really close to winning in a final score of 11-10. What an exciting game! Jerry Bellak got two home runs and played the outfield instead of shortstop. His home runs sent five runners across home plate. Norby Adams pitched a fine game and was four for four on top of it! Ed Pusatara also got a homerun for Jerry Phillip's 66. During the season Mary Pokorny and Sue Sparks have been their biggest fans. The team ended the season in fourth place, and seeing this is the first year they have played together, they have done a super fine job. Good luck to them next year as they will be working for first place. MCHENRY COUNTY SHRINE CLUB The Lee Parvins and Jerry Kings of Eastwood Manor participated in, and enjoyed, the parade this past Saturday in Marengo. These two gentlemen are members of the McHenry County Shrine club's Mini Bike unit. After the parade was over these families all met at the Jeff Johnson home for an afternoon of fun and food. The barbecue was dampened a couple of times, but not rained out. A great time was enjoyed by our group as well as many Shriners out of Rockford. The Johnsons were wonderful hosts and clown Ken Schopp kept everyone laughing! VACATION BIBLE SCHOOL Many children and adults of our community are busy in Vacation Bible school at the First Baptist church this week and next. There are crafts, Bible stories, and activities, a variety of things for the children to enjoy as they learn more of Christ. The children of McHenry are invited to "hop" the bus and come along!
