AUGUST 23, 1974 Ringwood News (653-9006) (653-9262) (728-0295) Frank Visconti Given Surprise Birthday Party c It was a real surprise for Frank Visconti last weekend when thirty of his friends popped up on the beach at the campgrounds in Spring Grove last Saturday night to sing "Happy Birthday". This was not a spur-of-the-moment kind of a party but one that took weeks of scheming and conniving on the part of his wife, Lil, and their good friends, Sue and Ed Erwin. To be sure they got Frank to the rendezvous point, Lil and the • Erwins planned an overnight camp-out. To have sufficient firewood for the bonfire that night, Frank was talked into cutting down a dead tree a week ago. Then it was up to Lil and Sue to haul the pieces away without his knowing it. This was the first time Frank had been on a hay ride and everyone had a terrific time although it m IS THE TIME TO BUY! ! • KITCHEN REMODELING • KITCHEN CABINETS Wood Made - White Meyer - Brammer - Ray Gold - Homecrest - Custom • VANITORIES STOCK A CUSTOM • MARBLE CORIAN & FORMICA TOPS - APPLIANCES - • Jenn Air • Roper •" Corning • Broan Hoods • Coming & Vance Counter Savers GLAVIANO'S INTERIORS & Palatine Millwork PHONE 385-3764 414 So. Rte. 31 - McHeniy, III © M sounded to your reporter as though there was more walking than riding, some of the hazards of the evening (but still fun) included many black and blue marks from being shoved off the wagon, Larry getting his troupers caught on a nail as he slid off the hay and not being able to get unhooked, and Ed getting a "hot seat" when a hole was burned in his trousers. Everyone had such a good time, the girls are already planning their next party in October. WELCOME NEW GRANDCHILD It was a happy time for Walt and Doris Low when they received the good news that their tenth grandchild had finally made his arrival into the world. The proud parents are Linda (Low) and Bill Billikas of Dubuque, Iowa. Little Nicholas William Billikas weighed in at 8 lbs. Saturday morning, Aug. 17. The paternal grandparents are Mr and Mrs. Nick Billikas of Boston CANASTA CLUB MEETS Bill and Shirley Cristy hosted the Canasta Club last Saturday night. Jerry and Mary Lou Cristy substituted for Alvin and Muriel Benoy who could not be there and Jerry was one of the lucky ones to get high score. Sue Low was the other high scorer. HERE AND THERE Frank Visconti's niece, Jan Visconti, spent three days with them last week. She celebrated her birthday on Friday. Mrs. Nellie Hepburn's sister and brother-in-law, the Russell Soddys of Kenosha, spent the weekend here and on Sunday they took Aunt Nellie and visited the Henry Aissens in Wonder Lake. Mr. and Mrs. Harold Meier of Elma, Iowa, arrived at the home of Dick and Phyllis Zell last weekend to spend a few days before returning home with their daughter, Susan, who has been visiting here. The Zells' other house guest, Terri Stevenson, returned home last Saturday. Paul and Althea Walkington, Alvin and Muriel Benoy with daughters, Lisa and Jodi, went camping last weekend at Shawano, Wis. It was one of those lovely, lazy and relaxing weekends where a person just does nothing. Debbie and Bill Bork of Charleston were recent visitors of her folks. Bob and Martha Betts, of our town. Bill's folks, the Bob Borks of Chicago, joined the group for a nice visit. Like, where did the summer go???? ILA S REPORT While in London, Ila was a day early for the Queen's Royal birthday. But there were bands from every country or isle that England owns or rules playing in around the fountain square in front of the Royal Castle. It was most impressive. It is very interesting to see and watch the changing of the guards. Don't think that anyone really misses that while in London. Besides that Ila toured the Tower of London, which holds many historical artifacts and stories. The Tower houses the gates that open the roadway, to allow ocean-going ships to enter the Pool of London. The two bascules that carry the roadway weigh over 1,000 tons each. But they can be raised in just under 2 minutes. The bridge was built in between 1886 and 1894 by the City of London Corporation to link the southeastern part of the city with the city proper and the eastern city. The cost was well over a million pounds. The shore front is used as a pleasure beach by children. Tons of sand were brought in with the thanks of Sir Charles Wakefield and the sanction of King George V. It was opened in 1934. Even the tower of Big Ben should' not be^ missed. Please go out and visit Ila to see all the beautiful pictures. Marshall High Plans Reunion The 1939 class of Marshall high school, Chicago, is looking for alumni. A thirty-fifth anniversary reunion of the Marshall high school graduating class of June, 1939 (February '39 grads are welcome too), is being planned for Saturday, Sept. 28, at the Sheraton O'Hare, 6810 W Mannheim road, Rosemont, 111. Anyone who resides locally should contact member of the committee, Mrs. Jack (Pearl Singer) Cooper after 5 p.m. for immediate reservations Collapsible? A certain gentleman was over heard saying he thought there was a lot more truthfulness in advertising these days. TAX FACTS Northern Illinois taxpayers who own aircraft must file a special federal tax return, Form 4638, by Sept. 3. "The For..i 4638 should include the annual fee for each aircraft, plus the tax of 3V2 cents for each pound of maximum certified takeoff weight for turbine powered aircraft, and 2 cents for each pound of maximum certified takeoff weight over 2,500 pounds for other aircraft," according to Charles F. Miriani. IRS district director The tax year for the Use tax begins July 1 and runs through June 30. If the first taxable use by an aircraft occurs after July 31, the tax based on weight is proportionately reduced. These tax revenues are used for construction and improvement of public airports and air control facilities. "Forms 4638 and additional information on the aircraft use tax are available at the Chicago IRS District office," he said.
