Not only did these lads enable the Warrior backs to scamper for 207 yds., but they held in check the Mustangs time after time. The "Fighting Warriors" gathered in 20 first downs to the host school's 7. In fact the Warriors so dominated the game, they held the Mustangs to only 2 first downs the entire first half, while building up a 14 to 6 bulge at half time. Mike Roberts returned the opening kickoff to Warrior 35. A completed pass from "Steamer" Kaspryzk to Ev Klapperich, added by a Mundelein penalty put the ball at midfield. After another Mundelein penalty, and the Warriors deep in Mustang country, one of Rasper's passes was intercepted at the 20. The mighty Warrior line held and forced the Mustangs to punt to George Hansen as he returned it to the Mundelein 48. A penalty put the ball on the Mustang 30. Then Steve "Night Train" Lane picked up 9. Kaspryzk made the first down on the 20. Hansen and Kasper made it a first down on the Mustang 6. Then Kasper found John Dix open in the end zone and lofted^a neat 6 yd. pass for the T.D. Steve Whitehead's kick made it Warrior 7 to 0. WARRIORS HOLD After the kickoff the Warriors held again and Torced Mundelein to punt to their own 34. The Warriors then took command again. Hansen picked up 8 over tackle. Kasper then made a 1st down on the 18. Hansen again getting the call made 13 around left end to the 5. On a broken play Kasper went into the end zone untouched for another Warrior touchdown, and with Whitehead's kick good the Warriors led 14 to 0 with 6:14 -emaining in the half. " After both teams exchanged punts the Warriors had the ball deep in their own territory, when they again were forced to punt. The Mustangs managed to block this one and the baP rolled in the end zone where Chuck Shellenberger of Mundelein fell on the ball for a T.D. The P A T. failed and the Warriors went into the dressing room at halftime with a 14 to 6 lead. In the third period after the Warrior kickoff and again they held, the Mustangs were forced to punt, the Warriors started a drive that was halted at the Mustang 20. After again the Mustangs were able to gain 3 first downs, the Warriors took over and again managed a march toward the Mundelein goal line. As the 4th quarter opened once again the Warriors were ready for a score. Nuss ran for 5 to the Mustang 14. Nuss again went for 11 to the 3, and for the third straight time Nuss took the ball, this time into paydirt. Whitehead's kick again was good and the Warriors led 21 to 6. COACH CLEARS BENCH At this time Coach Day began to clear his bench, and the reserves eager for action didn't let their Coach down, as they held-the Mustangs in check for the rest of the game. It was a well deserved victory for the Warriors. They completely dominated the game from start to finish. As mentioned earlier the line play was just great. Barry, Dix, Gerstad, Jernigan, Roberts, Eppel, Voight, Jacobs and Decker did an excellent job, and the backs of Lane, Klapperich, Hansen, Ludwig, Nuss, and the ends John Dix and Bill Dodge all performed well. Economists tell us that we are in a terrible inflation period and at the same time are in a recession--heading for a depression. Young people can't remember the big depression years. Hope they never see one. THE DEPRESSION MEANT: Stock market crash. Rich men being wiped out. Rich men jumping out windows. No jobs. Good men hitting the road and glad to do anything to earn a meal. Warriors and talking to Coach Day after the game, he had nothing but praise for his "Fighting Warriors". The smiling Coach made the remark that "Unity, line play, and the Kids that went both ways, made the difference for the Warriors." Need I add what I have said before, the "Warriors" are for real, the quarterback problem has been solved. Kaspryzk did an excellent job, and for future North Suburban foes, don't take the McHenry Warriors lightly, or you'll be sorry. The Sophomores lost to Mundelein 8 to 0. The young Warriors had several chances to score, but fumbles hurt them. Once they overcome these mistakes the Sophomores should roll up a few wins, this season. Safety is the name of the game in the free boating instruction being offered by the C h a i n - O - L a k e s P o w e r Squadron. The proper operation of all types of boats, especially the family outboard, is emphasized in two 10-week courses which begin Wednesday, Sept. 18, at 8 p.m. in Richmond, at the Richmond- Burton Township high school and oh Tuesday, Sept. 24, at Crystal Lake, in the high school. Registration will take place the first night at 8 p.m. Aimed to teach the minimal knowledge required for safe boating, completing the course will increase the boatman's confidence, according to Robert W. Byrne, Commander of the Chain-O-Lakes Squadron. "It will lay a basic foundation for building boating skills by further study, application and experience," he said. The classes cover such subjects as boat handling under normal and adverse conditions, seamanship and common emergencies, rules of the road, aids to navigation, compass and chart familiarization, running lights and equipment, boat trailering and river boating „ . "A boater, being responsible for himself andhis passengers, who goes out on the water without proper knowledge of the ruels of the road, safety requiremnts or aids to navigation is asking for trouble," the commander said. "With the information he may gain from this free instruction, he can have his boat properly equipped and be able to cope with the many situations he may face on the water." The Chain-O-Lakes Power Squadron is a unit of the United States Power Squadrons, largest volunteer educational organization for boatmen in the world. Its members are men dedicated to promote safety in boating through education and donate their time to this service. There are more than 400 squadrons in the United States, with nearly 85,000 members. This year it acts like the first grader - confident, perhaps a bit cocky, but a veteran of one year of experience. "It" is the C.L. Hockey club, which is approaching its second year of indoor hockey league play for boys in the Crystal Lake area. With experience come changes. One major change is that this year's pre season practice sessions and the majority of league play will take place at the new Lake Barrington Ice Arena, located just off Route 14, on Pepper Road, east of Fox River Grove. It is a new season with a new home. Interested parents and players should make note of the following dates and times for the pre-season training sessions. They will be held on Saturdays during September. The dates are Sept. 7, 14, 21 and 28. Formal league play shall begin the first week in October. Payment for practices must be made before a player can participate. It is also requested that all boys be ready to take the ice at their appointed times. This way each boy will be guaranteed a full hour of practice. It is also important that any boy interested in playing on a team attend as many practices as possible. This is fair not only to the boys but to the coaches of the various teams as well. A n o t h e r s i g n i f i c a n t departure from last year is that the head coach of the Junior squad will be Tom Kleinfelter. Tom is a native of Crystal Lake, a graduate of C.L. high school, with several years of college and league hockey experience. At the risk of redundancy, everyone must realize that the purpose of the CL Hockey club is to provide an avenue for the players to enjoy themselves and have fun while participating in a fine sport with spirited competition. Equal ice time for all boys is stressed, in fact it is incorporated in the by-laws of the club. Winning games is secondary. Obviously everyone would like to win all the time. Some organizations place a priority on victory. The C.L. Hockey club does not. Those who seek more information may call 459-0252.
