For instance, it's often possible to select one coat that will be suitable for the chilly days of fall and spring and also be worn on very cold winter days. The coat to meet such demands should be of medium weight with zip-out lining or be designed to wear over sweaters. Pat says it's important that your child like the coat being bought. At a very early age, children indicate 'definite preferences concerning style, color, and texture. Important design features include large, easy-to-reach pockets and manageable buttons or zippers. It's also important to a child that the coat conform to the general style being worn by friends. In addition to considering design and color, select a coat that fits and is comfortable to wear. For example, shoulders, sleeves, and armholes need to be roomy enough for freedom of movement. The neckline and collar should be low enough in front so that the coat doesn't bind. Sleeve length and overall length should be attractive. Since coats are expected to last more than one year, growth features are an important factor to consider. Most children grow more in length than in width, but both are subject to change. Pat suggests that you look for these growth features: -Hems that can be let down. -Cuffs that allow for lengthening. -Raglan sleeves, which allow for changes in shoulder width. -Double-breasted fronts on which buttons can be moved. -Straight hanging design lines rather than fitted seaming.
