Time Takes Toll Of Yellowstone Park Area (by Father Wm. O. Manner) retired Episcopal Vicar) By pushing very hard on Monday, Sept. 9, we got to Yellowstone Park, where we had "paid for" reservations at Old Faithful Inn. We stopped in Cody for lunch and bought a couple of new beaded ties, one red, one blue, on which we continue to get compliments. Fine Indian work it is too! Our first joy in the park was Yellowstone lake. There it stands amid its fields and mountain background just as it used to be. No summer homes mar its shores, no boat was on its surface. It is just as it was long, long ago and this goes for the rest of the lakes in the park. Then we went to the falls of the Yellowstone. It was a Jong way but the roads are pretty good after a hard summer of use - hordes of people visit here. Things Ret used roughly- so many people can't help but wear places. The falls are eye filling. They are one of the beauty places of the world. Their fame is widespread. There they pour down, the waters of the Yellowstone river as they have for years. They are more photographed than any falls in America save Niagara. I suppose. All along through the parks as we drove we could see the steaming guysers. There are not many places in the world where they are found: Yellowstone Park, the Valley of Ten Thousand Smokes in Alaska, the Kamchatka peninsula, which forms the eastern shore of the Sea of Okhotsk opposite Alaska, New Zealand, that's about all. We got to the Old Faithful Inn and registered for our room. What a seething mob millrRfL at>out desk and cashiers, calling for luggage help, struggling with bags, money, credit cards and travelers' checks. Now about Old Faithful Inn -- I am all for saving historical old buildings- preserving our heritage- keeping Yellowstone as it was 100 years ago--BUT - Old Faithful Inn ought to go. I have seldom paid so much for TEACHER TRAINING -- McHenry County Catholic Education sponsored a basic methodology teacher training day for volunteer teachers of religious education programs, held last Saturday in St. Patrick's church hall. Some fifty teachers took part in the "how to" sessions given by Fr. Karl Ganss, the area director of religious education and Mrs. Mary Marsh, director of St. Patrick's programs, shown above. Sister Rebecca Marie, director for Christ the King at Wonder Lake, also was an instructor. The second part of the workshop will be in January and will deal with creativity in the classroom. RTF. 120 - McHENRY, ILLINOIS so poor a room but then I catch cold sleeping on the ground at freezing temperatures. It isn't easy. The Inn is worn out-the meals are terrible-pull it down and start over. Its days are done. Nor was I much impressed with Old Faithful. He is rightly named. Old and Faithful in the same sense that families had old faithful retainers. He erupted twice for me. The first time he gurgled and belched. Then he burped. Steam came up in clouds and at last a fair stream of very hot water. The second time he seemed to do better He didn't act so ill at his stomach as he did the first time and at last he shot a fine plume of water steam plus fitting rumblings and hissings. Everybody took pictures. The Inri sold more film; we all subsided along with Old Faithful. The dining room? It was there crammed full. The| college kids ran panting wiUt t huge trays of food. You waited to get in. You waited to pay to get out. The food was about like a mediocre boarding house, edible but nothing to write up for the Plaindealer. Let us to bed! Aha there you will be secure and safe. But Oh dear not if they put a stair over your bedroom. Up and down the stairs they went Some plodded, some slid over the steps as though on sandpaper or gravel; some bounced up or down landing I suspect on their heels. They talked. They called to each other and to their progeny. They struggled with Area Pro-Life Branch Expands The branch of the Illinois Citizens Concerned for Life, which is now based in Crystal Lake, is continuing to expand. New members are always very much needed and welcomed. This chapter includes men and women from all the surrounding towns in McHenry county. Efforts are being made to establish an educational committee in order to acquaint the public with the pro-life heavy baggage stopping to pick up what they dropped. I- inally we got to the sleep of the exhausted. Soon it was 5:30 a.m. At this time the tours get up They have to do all the things people do in the morning. They dress, they shave 'electrically), they pack their bags and throw them in the hall, they flash noisy old toilets and chatter their way to the dining room again to get an early start. We left sedately at 9 a m., having breakfasted poorly and took our way south. It was pleasant to see the mist on the lakes, to see the fishermen. In some places they have you throw your catch back so someone else can catch too. It's a good idea-there are just not enough fish to satisfy all the fishermen. Yellowstone-the same as 100 years ago Is that what's wrong with it? PAGE 5 - PLAINDEALER-WEDNESDAY. SEPTEMBER ». 1M4 movement. Another phase to acquaint the public with the pro-life movement.
