COLOR M c H E N R Y McHINRY 38S 0144 SHOWTIMES - FRI., SAT., SUN. 7 & 9 WEEKDAYS 7:00 It was like old times to have a phone conversation with Mary Etten. She is home from the hospital and on the way back to good health. Mary thought she would have to relinquish her title as head of the White Sox Booster CTub and have Geno Schaefer appointed. Now she is ready to hang in there. Dick Rabbitt's first column appears in this issue. STAFF PHOTOS BY WAYNE GAYLORD McHenry Warriors Seek Fourth Win At Lake Forest Saturday By Dick Rabbitt Coach Bill Day's "Fighting Warriors" will be seeking their fourth win of the season as they travel to Lake Forest tomorrow for a game w ith the Scouts. The Warriors are in a three way tie for the North Suburban lead with Harrington and Zion Libertyville kickoff 80 yrds for the only freshmen touchdown Mike Tollifson added the two points for the final Warrior tally The Frosh "B" squad played the Libertyville "B" squad to a 0 to 0 tie Benton. Something will have to happen in that game as Barrington and Zion knock heads at Barrington Last season the Scouts in their first season in the North Suburban (after a 15 year breakaway) lost two and tied one in their first three games. They then went on to win 6 straight, including wins over Libertyville and Barrington. Only 5 lettermen return from that fine club After opening losses to Dundee and Zion, the Scouts got on the winning track last Saturday with a 18 to 0 win over Mundelein Reports are from Lake MCHS Girls Hockey Team Ties Dundee Last week the McHenry girls field hockey team battled Dundee to a 2-2 tie. Excellent defense by both teams kept both teams scoreless until the 2nd half when 4 goals exploded through the goalie cage Mcllenry's offense provided a brilliant display of teamwork in scoring two goals Mary Elliott, left wing, slammed two finely centered shots through the goal Diane Eschner lead the McHenry offense unit as center forward while Eileen Connell. left fullback, and Cookie Miller, goalie, contributed excellent saves throughout the game. Other McHenry players included Ann Heiser, Cathy Gattone. Linda Lossman, Angie Breidenfeld, Annette Miller, Gigi Smith, Taina Olsen, Pam Hanna, Lisa Olsen and Donna l^asko. Chief storekeeper was Pat Stoffel, timekeeper Kelly Staley. and manager was Kathy Ullrich The girls are coached by Miss Cis Morner 6 SHOWPLACE 1 4 2 STARTS FRIDAY Weekdays 7:00 - 9:00 SAT. & SUN. 1 - 3 - 5 - 7 - 9 "THE DOVE" A TRUE STORY OF A YOUNG MAN WHO SAILED AROUND THE WORLD SEEKING HIMSELF! WEEKDAYS 7:20 & 9:20 SAT. & SUN. 1:20 - 3:20 - 5:20 7:20 - 9:20 CROSS IT - and you qet crossed off Forest that they would like to see a repeat of last season with six wins in a row. You can be sure that the Scouts will be out to knock off the surprise team in the league the McHenry Warriors. On the other ha/id the Warriors know what it takes to win. It has been a great team effort the past three weeks. The spirit on the team and in the school has been just great. The defense has done all that has been asked of them. Last Friday night, the offensive line literally blew the Wildcats off the field, enabling the shifty backs to gain yard after yard. Their fine play has not only been noticed locally. The Chicago papers are beginning to believe in the Warriors, and they are getting some mention in the daily newspapers v So what do you say, let's all journey over to Lake Forest and support this fine team on Saturday afternoon Game time is 2:00 p.m. The crystal ball got a little cracked last week With Crown winning and Mundelein losing it was three out of 5 Record so far this season is 10 and 5. This week I again pick the Warriors over Lake Forest Barrington over Zion, give the Broncs the home field advantage Libertyville over Crown (Cats will be clawing), Dundee over North Chicago (defense too tough for Hawks) Tigers over Mundelein (Tigers still smarting from that 55 to 2 loss at Zion) NORTH SUBURBAN CONFERENCE STANDINGS Team W L Pts Opp McHENRY 3 0 72 18 Barr 3 0 128 26 Z.B. 3 0 124 21 Dundee 2 1 33 37 Libtvle 1 2 37 63 C L Lk. Instructions would help all of us -- not only the voung drivers Alter watching two cars and one truck make right turns on the red going south on Green St at Elm, it firmed up our theory that accidenta would be few if all drivers watched the signs to our right. When you try to stay down to the posted speed limits, drivers in back get mighty disturbed If looks would kill, we would have been dead long ago. Where would our White Sox be without that battling old veteran, Jim Kaat, and his 19 victories9 Maybe like Moses, down in the basement with the lights turned off It's so nice to see people smile After the Cubs won five straight games, Bob Blake and Herb Reihansperger walked along together looking like two big sunflowers.
