On The Sidelines With Dick Babbitt An interesting incident happened after the recent Libertyville football game. Dale Christensen head football coach of the "Wildcat's" walked on the McHenry team bus as it was leaving for West Campus. Immediately the noise subsided. The coach of the beaten foe praised the Warriors for their fine play and wished them continued success in behalf of the "Wildcats" for the season. This is a true mark of a gentleman and sportsman. I don't believe that you would find Woody Hayes going into the Michigan locker room after a game he had lost and congratulate the victors. This is the name of high school athletics, sportsmanship and fair play. Spunky George Hansen who had been removed from the game late in the fourth period was at the elbow of Coach Day pleading to get back into the game so that he could covet the 100 yds. in rushing. Coach Day obliged, but found out moments later that George had already run for 138. Upon removing George and asking him about his request, when he knew that he had already gone for over 100 yds., George replied "Coach I just wanted to play". With enthusiasm like that no wonder the Warriors are undefeated. S.I.H. always complains about needing help to the pressbox. The reason, he has both arms full of goodies for the gang in the pressbox. The wives are cooking less on Friday nights thanks to Earl. Frank Camasta a former resident, drove up from Decatur to watch the Warriors in the rain at Lake Forest. That's what I call real loyalty. The McHenry High School Cross Country team has had a sensational record over the past seven years. Starting with Don Seaton's undefeated seasons in 1968-69 and continuing with Bill Hutchinson, the 'Running Warriors" have to date 195 wins, 25 losses, and 2 ties in Varsity, Sophomore, and Freshmen meets. "Hutch" and his able assistant Earl Kyle are looking forward to many more wins in the future. Bravo for Warrior fans, who attended the Lake Forest game in the driving downpour. The Warrior cheering section outnumbered the host school. The downpour didn't discourage these fans, as the Warriors arose to the occasion. Danny Voight senior lineman of the Warriors did an excellent job of opening holes for the Warrior backs in the Lake Forest game. For high school football at its best I suggest you turn to W.I.V.S. in Crystal Lake to hear play by play with Tom Parsley and Vern Peterson. Their comments, and observations are something to behold. They have Vince Lloyd and Lou Bouderau beat a mile. I sometimes wonder what would happen if the F.C.C. got ahold of their broadcast. Either they would be hired for a national network, or maybe just plain fired. Vern tells me there is a possibility that the McHenry- Barrington game mav be broadcast, so that you fans that can't make it to Barrington on October 12th will have a chance to listen to the game. Coming up tomorrow is the Marian vs Benet game, and later in the month the Woodstock vs Cary Grove game. They will definitely broadcast a portion of the State Playoffs. After each game they have a football scoreboard, giving all college and high school results. I suggest that if you can't make it to one of the area high school games, tune in Tom and Vern, you won't be disappointed. Brian Nuss Warrior halfback, who was injured in the Lake Forest game, and was kept in the Lake Forest Hospital overnight, returned to practice on Monday and is ready to go against the Tigers. Good Luck to "Hutch" and his "Running Warriors" as they compete in the tough Peoria Invitational Cross Country Meet in Peoria tomorrow. Although the competition is rough, the experience gained will be invaluable for the local squad. Senator Scott sees Rocke feller aiding Kissinger.
