RAGE 4 • PLAINDEALER--FRIDAY. OCTOBER 11. 1*74 Holiday Hills Karen Kottke 385-6675 Renewed Interest Sparks Formation Of Now ArH Club For a couple of years now the f-fi Club chapter for this area has been in a sort of limbo. But renewed interest has sparked the formation of a 4-H Club group for youth from 9 to 19 years of either sex who may \*tsh to join. Registration will be at the Novak residence on Cedar Street on Monday, Oct. 14, from 4-5 p.m. Dave Ploker will be guest speaker at the registration and will answer any and all questions per taining to the club. Parents are also invited to attend this first informal meeting. ON THE GO A few weeks ago Mimi DeWitt, Marge Connell and Dee Wegener found themselves incredibly bored and lacking any household chores to per form (this is not exactly true, but any reason was good enough to forget about household duties), so they put their heads together and decided it would be an excellent time to visit Bonnie Kellen, a former Holiday Hills resident. The Kellens now reside in Lisle. The gals thoroughly enjoyed the visit and are delighted that the Kellens are so pleased with their new residence. WELCOME BACK Would like to say hello, and welcome home to Carolyn, Ann, and Craig Staekhouse, Jr., even if they are only here for a short Visit. The Staekhouse family now resides in Atoka, Tenn. I understand that they were delighted to see so many of their old friends this past week. We miss your sunny disposition, but that now belongs in Tennessee so, if you must, take it safely back with you, but don't forget your friends in Holiday Hills. BAND DAY Several of our area youths were afforded the opportunity to attend a band day ceremony at Northwestern University last Saturday, Oct. 5. The McHenry bands were among those to participate in the ceremonies and enjoyed seeing the Northwestern Wildcats defeat *Oregon, 14-10. Among the youths in attendance were Denise Hughes, and her drums, Kurt Teuber, and his saxophone, and Terry Maras, and her flute. SYMPATHY NOTICE Our deepest sympathy to the Maras family over the death on last Saturday, Oct. 5, of Joe Maras, Sr. Joe was very ac tively involved with our area. He sacrificed many hours for the improvement of this sub division and his death leaves an emptiness for all who knew him. BIRTHDAYS Birthday greetings to Kimmie White on Oct. 12; to Bill Boettcher and Bev Saun ders on Oct. 13; to Renee Jende on Oct. 15; and to Desiree Frantz on Oct. 18. PROPERTY OWNERS ASSOCIATION After surveying the disgusting conditions of the roads, the disregard for cleanliness and neatness, and the lack of concern for the total appearance of our subdivision, I feel compelled to discuss a few views on the Holiday Hills Property Owners Association. As anyone who knows where I live can attest, we have a major problem on our street. Being an unincorporated subdivision we're afforded minimal aid from Nunda Township and McHenry County with any of our problems, particularly concerning roads. More often than not, one is referred to its Property Owners' Association for aid with problems. This on the surface seems to be^our governing body. But if you scratch hard enough you'll find that it's just about every man for himself. For those of you who may be interested, I suggest that you secure a copy of the Association By-Laws, it makes for interesting reading and is sorely in need of revision. Article 1 describes the purpose of the Association. One of the purposes, as sub - article ' (c) states is, "to develop and maintain the physical properties and facilities of Holiday Hills." Is this being done? How many junk cars, junk yards, and uncut lots prevail in this subdivision? What about fly - by - night builders who destroy the roads and rape the landscape and then disappear into the bankruptcy blind? Does the association feel that it has no responsibility to the property owner disrupted by these ac tivities? Further on in the By-Laws, Article III describes mem bership. Naturally, only those who pay their yearly dues are afforded membership or, for that matter, afforded a voice in anything that could, would, or should be done through the association. Checking further in this article, we come across Section 6 -- Resignation: "Any member may resign by filing a written resignation with the secretary, but such resignation shall not relieve the member so resigning of the obligation to pay any dues, assessments, or other charges." Which I assume means, that if you pay dues once you're ensured a lifetime membership whether you like it or not. The By-Laws are quite lengthy but I feel each family in this subdivision should read a copy of them to decide for themselves the effectiveness of the Holiday Hills Property Owners Association. From where I sit, the entire Association Board should retire in favor of those a little less concerned with the absolute letter of the by-laws, and a little more concerned for the bet terment and improvement of this subdivision. Just as no one person can oversee or perform the duties required to create a beautiful subdivision and remove its stigma, the Association can not be divided on every issue and expect to accomplish anything. The next time you drive down Sunset, or Holiday, or whatever road you travel, look around you. Are you annoyed by what you see? Eastwood Manor Mary Ann Bellak 385-5705 McHenry Hornet Pee Wee's Defeat Edison Park Team The McHenry Hornet Pee Wee's won over Edison Park, would you believe, 34-0. Touch downs were scored by Curt Rehberg, Craig Cavanaugh, Joe Bishop, Andy Mass and Mike Sabatka. Great both way positions were played by Curt Rehberg, Scott Rehberg, Jeff Justen and John Clewis of our subdivision. Doug Cochran was out sick and was missed by the team. Our defense shut out Edison Park. We played Edison Park again Oct. 19, at West Campus. There were also cheerleaders to help lead our boys onto victory! Jody Justen, Wendy Cavanaugh, Michelle Reh berg, Laura Clewis are their names. They looked very cute doing their part for our team. The girls were taught a lot of their cheers by Stacy Marcotte of Eastwood Manor. FIELD TRIPS On Tuesday, Oct. 8, the classes of Mrs. Antonou and Miss Harms will be visiting the Oriole Springs Apple Orchard in Twin Lakes, Wis. Thursday, Mrs. Carby, Miss Grove, Mrs. Smith and Miss Verene will be taking the same field trip to the apple orchard, with their classes. They will leave Hilltop at 9:30 a.m. and return by 2:30 p.m. The children will bring a sack lunch which they are looking forward to. Michelle Melone, Jimmy Bellak, Michael Walsh, Dareen Klatt and Laura Clewis are just a few of the children's names from Eastwood Manor who will be going on this particular field trip. BELATED BIRTHDAY WISHES Happy birthday to Vern Raiford who celebrated his birthday on Sept. 30. BROWNIE-TROOP 211 A few weeks ago the Brownies from Troop 211 signed up for the new year. Recently they went picking apples and pears, and each little girl brought a bag full home. Wendy Howard, Angie Carey and Geri-Lynn Dowe were three of the young girls who enjoyed the outing. HOMEOWNERS ASSOCIATION Eastwood Manor Residents -- How many of you would be interested in reactivating the Homeowners Assocation? Send me your name, address, and phone number, or give me a call, and I'll start a list. After seeing how many people are interested, I'll take it from there. How's that sound?! There a few families I know who are interested. If there are a few more maybe we could get something going that would be worthwhile. GIRLSCOUTTROOP NEEDS NEW LEADER Girl Scout Troop 410 with its majority of girls from East wood Manor are in great need of finding a leader, please won't someone come to its aid. If they are not able to find a leader they will not be able to keep their troop going. As you can imagine that would upset many young girls for several dif ferent reasons. Did you know you don't have to be a mother of a Girl Scout to be a leader? You can be single, a grandmother, mother of boys, mother of girls either too young or too old to be in the Girl Scouts. If you are at all interested please call Mrs. Weber, at 385-5267. Make a group of young girls happy, and you'll find out that it makes your time and effort all wor thwhile. Llndberg Calls For "Stifling" Of Law Interpretation The Illinois Election board's interpretation of the state's new campaign fund disclosure law represents a "venal shoebox mentality" which must be stifled through quick court action, Comptroller George W.
