They have a big mobile line, and there is no doubt that the Warriors will have to be at their best for the game Saturday The Warriors are not a bit down from that double over time loss to the Tigers. They have been having good practice sessions this week, and the spirit is still with the team In talking to Coach Day he commented. "We made a few mistakes last week, but the few we made hurt us' Twice the Warriors had scoring drives halted due to penalties If they can eliminate those mistakes I believe the Warriors will give the Broncos all they can han dle After their one sided defeat Harriers Win Thriller The locals defeated Antioch 28 to 29. and Schaumburg 21 to 39 Along with Mclnenery. Oakley. Pepping. Talbot, and Greg O'Halleran. and with strong finishes by the pushers, Himplemann and Worm, the Warriors closed out their home season this year with a big win. Hi. Helen Seborg We miss \ o u In case you readers don't remember. Helen has been hitting those line-o-type keys for Ye Olde Plaindealer for quite a spell until illness sidelined her temporarily). Auditors made their regular visit to the Plaindealer this week and our desk disap peared That's a twist. Now they promise to return the desk Saturday. In the meantime we have to share a chair with Barb Gilpin. Nice work if you can get it. over Zion, maybe the Broncos can be caught napping Only two quick scores ngnlnM Mundelein enabled them lo nip the Mustangs 21 to 11 The luM three quarters of thai game was a standoff So in my crystal ball this week. I 'm going out against Ihe grain and pick the Warriors I still believe that they have what it takes to put one over on Barrington Lake Forest over Crown <Scout s are improving). Toney is a long time friend, and also lias many friends in the McHenry area It is a deserving honor, and congratulations are in order to one of the county s nnest gentlemen. The Pep Club at McHenry West really put on a homecoming pep rally last Thursday night A huge bonfire was in order, and the huge crowd was in rare form. . , Speakers included Mayor Stanek, the genial alderman from Lakeland Park "Smiling" Jerry Rogers, Gary Fields principal at East Campus, and Bob Swartzloff principal at West Campus The M.C. was Annette Pintozzi Pep Club president. Coach Bill Day was also called upon to say a few words, and he had the huge crowd pulling for a Warrior victory Coach Day introduced the game captains who spoke briefly. Kerry Jernigan, Dan Voight, and Bob Eppel. According to Marty Mullen ticket manager, the crowd at the homecoming game last Friday night was the largest in the last seven years. The North Suburban golf coaches were quite disappointed in their teams showing at the McHenry Country Club last Monday. Most of the coaches felt with summer play, and all the golf played this fall that the scores would be better. They felt that maybe the pressure of a conference tourney had its effect on the golfers. I will add an Amen. Back to the Pep Rally held Thursday night. Bouquets are in order to Fred Meyer and his crew, Fire Chief "Pete" and his crew, and Chief Espey and his men for a job WELL DONE. We also can't forget those great Warrior fans who made the rally a booming success. Coach "Hutch" and his "Running Warriors really showed their heels to 28 schools in the recent Peoria Invitational. John Mclnernery finished 9th among some of the best runners in the state. Finishing 16th in a field of 44 for their best showing ever is really an accomplishment. For the past three years McHenry High School girls have had the opportunity to compete in a fast, endurance paced game called Field Hockey. The game was introduced in this country in 1901. It is extremely popular in the Eastern states, and is gaining in popularity across the United States. This year Northern Illinois University in DeKalb will h<5st the National Field Hockey Tournament over the Thanksgiving weekend. Locally there are two teams represented in the tournament. The North Shore Field Hockey Association, and the Central Field Hockey Association, If you cannot attend this tournament I suggest you come out to West Campus on Wednesday Oct. 16th at 4:30 P.M. and watch the girls play Lake Forest High School. McHenry girls include Mary Elliott left wing, Linda Lossman right inner, Diane Eschner center forward, Anne Heiser right wing, Cathy Gattone right halfback, Taina Olsen center-halfback, Eileen Connell left fullback, Angie Bridenfeld right fullback. Newcomers to the team include Janet McKinley goalie, Cookie Miller left inner, Gigi Smith left halfback. Ginny Lauer fullback, Cathy Lauer forward, Donna Lasko forward, Tina LiCastro forward, Lisa Olsen forward-fujiback, and Pam Hanna halfb&ck. In watching a game the other night, I am amazed that there are not more broken shinbones. Those gals can really handle the stick, and one had not better get in the way, ball or not those sticks are really flying. Suggest if you want to see something unique in the way of athletics, that you come out to West Campus on Wednesday at 4:30. GREG (Spider) WORM Greg, a Senior In his 4th year on the team is a dep endable runner who always gives 100*. A real team man and a fighter, this 5'6", 115 pounder has fin ished in the top five this season to help McHenry to their present 11-1 record. Ben Anktson A Son Inc. 3209 S. RTE. 31, McHENRY (Crystal Lake, lit.) We believe in prayer and it certainly helps -especially if you have a couple of big tackles in the line. Mary w as disappointed when Lawrence Welk's Champagne Lady didn't choose "The Blue Ridge Mountains of Virginia" for the state's song Sunday night. Do any of you Old Timers remember the words to that song? If so, send them to us. W e didn't know the music and Mary didn't know the words. She was extremely young w hen that song was popular Picked up from Bits & Pieces: A man wandered into a ft-deral office building and asked. "Is this the headquarters of the war against poverty?" He was told that it was. "Good" . he said. "I've come to surrender'" There is nothing wrong with having nothing to say - unless you insist on saying it Storefront sign: "During reorganization the basement will be found on the first floor " Large families are getting so expensive nowadays that only the poor can afford them. SHOOT • Don't forget the trap shoot next Sunday at the McHenry Sportsmens Club grounds near Pistakee Bay Crass County So the unflappable Walter Alston guided his Dodgers to a crushing victory over the Pitt sburg Pirates. Alston quietly assumes his team is the best in baseball unless the unhappy Oakland A's can prove dif ferently. MIKE ROBERTS Mike Roberts played the Crys- & Mike was the consistent defensive player of the game. SWIMMING LESSONS Red Cross swimming i n st ruct ion to be given by ce r tified teachers at McHenry's West Campus pool Lessons will be given on Saturdays, for 8 weeks starting October 19th thru Dec 14th. For further information call 385-7900 EARL WALSH Now for the world series The Oakland A's are still the old pros, money players-- and discontented high salaried athletes. The A's never agree with their manager and hold con tempt for the owner of the team. How can such a group keep winning? Most baseball fans we talk to want to see the Los Angeles Dodgers pin the Oakland team's ears back. They also think it would be High School Players of the Week I -SPORTS EDITOR I just dandy if owner Charlie O Finley was knocked from his perch. One thing must be said for Charlie O. He acquired a lot of good ball players. After the Baltimore loss on Wednesday. Walt Freund and Yours Truly still think w e could manage a team as well as some managers--- and for less money. Manager Earl Weaver hesitated about starting Mike Cuellar on the mound since a sore shpdlder was evident in the warm up. So he started Mike and left hira in to walk nine batters. That was smart"' Maybe. They weren't hitting his pitches No. sir! Thev couldn't reach the ball
