Card well, has announced that a new edition of Your Medicare Handbook will be mailed by Nov. 30 to more than 23.5 million people covered by Medicare health insurance. Doctors, hospitals, skilled nursing facilities, home health agencies, and health insurance organizations that handle M e d i c a r e c l a i m s a l s o w i l l receive the new handbook. The new edition is a result of major amendments made in the Medicare program in the past two years. The new handbook explains in detail how Medicare hospital and medical insurance work. It tells what kinds of care are covered, who can provide care, and how much Medicare pays. "It also tells what Medicare does not cover," the com missioner said. "Health care professionals will find the new handbook particularly helpful in ex plaining Medicare provisions and regulations to people who come to them with questions," he said. The handbook includes ex panded tables of covered and non-covered services and supplies and describes con ditions that must be met for each type of covered care.
