McHenry Shores Mrs. _ Rose LillegartJ 1 THINK ABOUT IT! j BY BOB JUSTEN Can you explain the strange arid mistaken idea that clothes make the man? It is certainly not so. It is generally true though that clothes express the man. We tend to choose garmets to make us look like the person we want to be; the sophisticated business man, the debonair man about town, the sportsman - or even the loafer. Clothing styles reflect trends but this does not alter the fact that men are notall alike. We come from different backgrounds. We have our own individual religious beliefs. We have our own family traditions and loyalities. We have our own political views. We should be aware that every one is unique in an individual way and that even two members of the same fiamily are different. With the execption of the clergy, clothes can never make visible in belief in God. Clothes can never indicate loyality to country or commitment to principles with any sure cert ainty. In short, clothes can only create impressions.- which are sometimes false. Are not thoughts, behavior and what is under the skin far more imnortant? GEORGE R. JUNSTEN FUNERAL HOME 3519 W. TocJcys Heolth News Published by the American Medicet Astociellon Cold cure quest... Although several recent clinical trials have shown that vitamin C may be ef fective in preventing colds, a scientist for the medical research department at E. I. duPont de- Nemours Company in Wilming ton, Delaware has raised the pos sibility that it may not be the vitamin, but & contaminant -- zinc --in the tablets that pro duced the positive results. Bruce Korant, Ph.D. recently reported that zinc ascorbate has been shown to inhibit the growth of 12 forms of rhinovirus, the infec tious agents of the common cold. New treatment for strep throat ... Now, an experimental vaccine that' is sprayed directly into the nose and throat shows promise of making those areas less prone to streptococci bacteria infection. The vaccine, which is still in the experimental stages, and will not be available to the public until extensive testing is complete, could protect children and adults from strep infections, which cause sore throat, fever, head ache, vomiting, and occasionally lead to rheumatic fever or a kidney condition called glom erulonephritis. Pollution and arteriosclerosis ... Carbon monoxide, an odorless, colorless, and potentially dan gerous gas that is a major ele ment in air pollution and ciga- | rette smoke, has been shown to aggravate the conditions of those suffering from arteriosclerosis-- a disease that clogs the arteries and cuts down the blood supply. The findings come from research ers at the University of Califor nia College of Medicine, in Irvine. WANT MORE INFORMATION?
