There are more worthy causes for your dollar than indictments of politicians. Had a real nice note from Larry Seborg telling us that his wife, Helen, will be back at the line-o-type keys soon. Let's get the band out to welcome our gal. Standard time is coming back next weekend. We forgot if had gone away. Time marches on. The local high school football schedule is mostly behind us. On Friday night of this week the Warriors travel to Dundee. The following Friday the rough and tough Zion-Benton teams come here for the windup. And that will be the first day of November. Time for Christmas shopping. Then the basketball starts bouncing. Coach Ludwig is anxious. The date to celebrate Veterans' Day seems settled this year after a grand mixup a year ago. The Federal Government has set aside Monday, Oct. 23th as the day this year. The State of Illinois has gone back to the Npv. llth date. That's our day. We will go to the park to Join the Vets in their observance of the day. It wasn't so many years ago that we learned from Clarence Anglese that there is no such thing as a National holiday. Each state has the right to confirm the date. The score sounds like a high scoring baseball game, but the Bears' 10-9 victory over the Qreen Bay Packers goes into the records as a football score. Those Bears have come a long way with a big turnover of players and a new quarterback. Seems a shame that a fine big athlete like Bobby Douglas shouldn't be in the action someplace in the lineup. But, he insists that he is a quarterback and that's that. Sometimes we get a thought that seems brilliant (one man's opinion). We don't write it down and it is lost by the time we sit down to write a column. The most unbelievable and greatest one-game relief pit ching feat ever performed by a major-league hurler was ac complished by Ernie Shore of the Boston Red Sox, on June 23, 1917. In that game against the Washington Seantors, after the opening batsman drew a base on balls, the Red Sox starting pitcher was removed for violently proj^sting an um pire's decision. Relief pitcher Ernie Shore was sent in to pitch the balance of that first inning. And he proceeded to retire all the batters in order for the rest of that nine-inning contest, to turn in a perfect no-hit no-run game. MCHS Harriers Tie For Second In Conference Meet At Randall Oaks Warriors Play Dundee Cards There Tonight By Dick Rabbitt The "Running Warriors" finished in a second place tie with Lake Forest in the North Suburban Conference meet held last Saturday at Randall Oaks in Dundee. Barrington won the meet with 48 pts. followed by the Warriors and Scouts each with 75. John Mclnenery was third in the time of 14:18. Other Warriors and their place of finish were Andy Oakley llth, Greg Worm 14th (who did an outstanding job) Ron Him- plemann. These four boys all received medals for their ef forts. Other McHenry runners were Steve Thorns 27th, Vince Linnane 31st and Jerry Pepping 39th. The Crystal Lake Frosh-Soph Invitational is on tap Monday at Veterans Acres in Crystal Lake. The Cards with a 4 and 3 record are one game behind the Warriors, and would like nothing better than to knock off the McHenry eleven. The Cards are an up and down team. Last week they defeated Mundelein 22 to 6, but were beaten earlier by North Chicago 7 to 0. They have a big line led by tackles Jim Christie a 6' 4" 255 lb. junior and Marc Bennent 5' 11" 235 lb. also a junior. Their guards and linebackers also average over 200 lbs. Coach Curtright says "Our team is big and slow". The Card offense is led by quarterback Matt Bordes and halfback Jim Schuldt. They are .currently 10th and llth in conference scoring. With a state playoff still possible, the Warriors will be ready for the game. Reports are the team is in excellent health after the 44 to 0 win over North Chicago last Friday night. The offensive and defensive line play last week was the best of the season for the Warriors. If they can continue to improve, they should blow the Cards as big as they are right off the field. Game time is 8:00 P.M at Spain Field right down Rt. 31 in Dundee. Let's back the Warriors for win number six. Last week Crystal Lake beating Lake Forest put another crack in the old crystal ball. This week I again pick our Warriors to win by beating Dundee. Crystal Lake over Crown, Barrington over Lake Forest, Libertyville over North Chicago, and Zion to beat Mundelein.
