SPONSOR BASKETBALL BOOKLETS-Members of the Junior class of MCHS are now contacting local industries and individuals to sponsor basketball program booklets. Proceeds from the sale of advertising space will be used to defray the expense of the senior prom. The class hopes to raise $1,800 from the programs. Initial response has been excellent, with $400 of ad space already taken. Shown is David Alderman, right, buying the first ad for the 1974-1975 basketball program from the junior class officers, Craig Smith, president, left, Karyl Bryniarski, secretary; Jim Murgatroyd, vice-president, and Pam Kalk, treasurer. Photo by Tom Hutchinson On The Sidelines With Dkk Rabbitt The old soothsayer S.I.H. has a crystal ball of his own. Last week he said he hoped to see Ev Klapperich scamper for a long warrior T.D. He no more than got seated in the press box last Friday night, when Klapperich gathered in a Steve Kaspryzk pass good for a 72 yd. touchdown run Not only did the gang in the "pressbox" give him the business, but Freddie Meyer yelled in some comments. S.I.H. has gone on record as saying that's enough for this season. Maybe we can get another prediction out of him for the Zion game. John Leighty's halftime show was just excellent. They kept the shivering crowd entertained. One of these days we are going to get John to give us a story on what it takes to put on a halftime show at a football game. The student body chanting "We want the Weenies" was something to behold. This group of reserves responded to the call, by marching 64 yds. to a touchdown in the fourth period. Did you notice that the regulars on the sideline were forming a cheering section of their own for their teammates. With this kind of "spirit de corps'"' it is no wonder that the Warriors are having a great season. Team play is what it takes and the Warriors sure have it. A behind the scenes figure who is part of the Warrior success is their genial manager Ted "Bomar" Honning. A coach once said "a good manager is worth two players" and I believe the Warriors have such a fellow in Bomar. During the practice session he is a busy fellow. He takes out the tackling dummies to the field, and sees that they are filled with air. First aid material, clean balls, and runs any errands for the coaching staff. He makes sure that there are towels available after practice, and then comes the mighty task of cleaning out the locker room. On the night before a game he sets out the team uniforms in front of each player's locker. On game nights he has the balls on the field before the team arrives for their warmup. All necessary equipment such as chin straps, shoestrings etc. are checked to see that they are in the right place on the bench. The first aid kid is ready, the drinking water bottles are filled, towels are available, and if it is a cool flight give out the warmup jackets to each player. After the game he checks all equipment, puts away the dirty towels, cleans out the locker room. His best job according to the players comes next in line. He sets out the post game snacks for the players. Each player contributes some change to Ted, and it is his job, and one that he likes, to buy the posi game snacks. After tasting some of the snacks last Friday night, I can see why Bomar is a popular fellow with the squad. No compensation, a lot of abuse (in a friendly manner) to a fellow who likes the game of football, and wants to contribute to it in some small way. So a tip of the old fedora to Bomar for a job well done. The Illinois High School Association has come up with a recent ruling. To be eligible for the state playoffs a team must have played 8 games prior to the weekend of Nov. 1- 3, and that a club must have a winning percentage of 800. This is going to cause some problems. An eight team conference must then play at least one nonconference game. Will the non - conference game count or not in the season record. I'm sure it will, but what about teams in the Suburban league who only play 6 conference games. It wouldn't be fair for a team to play 6 conference games and be the runner up, to displace a team that plays 8 or even 9 conference games. In the North Suburban in order to be eligible a team to have a 800 per cent must be either 9 and 0 or 8 and 1. If the Warriors win the next two games, I'm sure that will be considered for a "wildcard" berth in the state playoffs even though they won't have a 800 percent winning record.
