TWO BEERS & COKE SAT. BOB & THE BLUE TONES j HOW CAN I ? By Anne Ashley Q. How can I repair a pottery vase which is cracked and leaks water ? A. By pouring some melted paraffin into it and sloshing it around to cover the sides as well as the bottom. Q. What is a quick and ef fective way to clean greasy hands? A. Wet the hands, then rub about a tablespoon of granulated sugar into them, rinse and finish the job with ordinary soap. Q. How can I deal with discolorations in a sink or washbowl caused by a dripping faucet? A. Usually a paste of cream of tartar and peroxide applied with a stiff brush will do the trick. Q. How should terrazzo floors be cleaned? A. This type of floor should be brushed with a soft-hair broom, or cleaned with a floor brush of a vacuum cleaner. Mop the floor occasionally with clear water and light suds. Rinse and dry. Do not wax. Q. How can I repair the large crack that has developed between the hearth of my fireplace and my floor? A. These cracks develop when the mortar along the edges of the hearth crumble. Clean out thoroughly and wet the edges with water, then pack in a concrete mixture (one part cement and three parts sand; Q. Is there any home methou I can use to remedy some ex pensive crystal goblets that have become chipped at the edges? A. None that I know of. Your best bet is to take them to a good glazier for professional treatment. Q. How can I clean aluminum? A. Mix some ammonia, borax and water and apply to the aluminum with a soft cloth. Another method is to wash in warm soapy water, then dry and polish with whiting. Q. What can I do when the adhesive on the flap of an en velope or postage stamp doesn't stick? A. Try using some fingernail pohsh. This dries quickly and really sticks. Q. How can I keep household sponges sweet and fresh- smelling? A. By making a practice of soaking them from time to time in cold salt water. Q. How can I remove scratches from silverware? A Try rubbing over the silverware with a paste made of putty powder and olive oil, then following this with a chamois polishing. Q How can I provide some extra-attractive candle holders for a child's birthday cake? A Miniature marshmallows make very pretty candle holders - and so do various colored gumdrops.
