You can make sure your Christmas cards and pack ages are delivered on time if you just follow a simple rule -- mail early. Although "it's the thought that counts," a Christmas card or Christ mas gift received in the mail late can be disap pointing. Not to mention the aggravation it pro duces among U.S. Postal Service employees who are deluged with billions of cards and packaces during the season. So, to get holiday mate rial delivered on time, and help thepostman perform his duty, use zip codes and keep some deadlines in mind: -- Before the last week of November begins, send out parcel airlift packages and cards to servicemen overseas. -- By the end of No vember you should have mailed: surface parcels to The homemade gift: something special to folks Every gift is appreciated at Christmastime, but the idea of making it yourself usually merits special attention. Everyone buys gifts, but not everyone puts their special talents into doing something spe cial. Wherever your creative genius lies, why not use it to best advantage and have fun at the same time. One popular idea is to fill attractive, reusable jars or decanters with homemade jams, jellies, or preserves. Old fashioned candy tins make a great box for cookies and can dies that you made your self. The smart person will "do their thing" whether it's baking, sewing or even carpentry in large quan tities so more people will be able to enjoy the treats you make. Neighbors keep Yuletide spirit alive with trees One of the most beau tiful sights at holiday time is the Christmas tree. It's always been a family tra dition to select a tree, spend time together trim ming it, and gathering 'round it Christmas morn ing. This annual custom re quires the cutting of thou sands of trees each year, but there are ways to com pensate for this. Some communities have come up with a solution, but it requires cooperation and contributions from the townspeople. The idea is to have an area of land set aside for transplanting Christmas trees. At holiday time, people can buy potted, live trees. After the season ends, either collectively, or individually, the live trees are sent back to be trans planted again for next year. The trees might be sent to the growers who raise the trees specifically for the Christmas season. Alaska and Hawaii; pack ages via parcel airlift to the Arctic and Canada; and airmail parcels and cards to South and Central America, and the Near East or Far East. -- During the second week of December, try to take care of these holiday mailings: international to Africa, Near East and Far East; surface mail for the whole United States (including Alaska and Hawaii); airmail parcels and cards to Canada, Eu rope and Mexico. -- And finally, by the end of the third week in December, with only three. to five days to spare be fore the 25th, send all airmail parcels and cards to Alaska and Hawaii as well as all destinations in the continental United States. "Stockings hung by the chimney with care" is a Christmas tradition the whole family enjoys. Small treasures, choco lates and assorted trivia are just some of the items to be found inside that big, red stocking on Christ mas morning. But to satisfy your streak of practicality as well as surprise your fam ily on Christmas morning, try these useful ideas for stocking stuffers: pocket mirrors and decorative soaps for young ladies on your list; shoe horns, key chains, a tube of K2r Spot- lifter for the man of the house; miniature tool kits f o r y o u r l i t t l e m a s t e r builder; decks of cards for your bridge-players; theatre or sports tickets f o r a n y a n d e v e r y o n e ! • + * Nature does her best to persuade mankind that this is a pleasant earth. for the Car Lovers in Your Life AUDIOVOX FMC IC FM CONVERTER...™?..?®;??. •»$2490 AUDIOVOX FMX 20 FM MULTIPLEX..JAS..69.9.5 now *58 These items are BELOW dealer cost !!!
