Lutheran Church Plans * , •* Special Winter Series i*. Norman Macdonald, Jr., and Intern Lynn Parsons discuss special informational programs being planned at Shepherd of the Hills Lutheran church, 404 North Green street, McHenry. A series of special services and programs has been planned at Shepherd of the Hills Lutheran Church. On Dec. 1 at both the 8:30 and 10:30 a.m. worship services, the youth of the parish will lead the congregation in contemporary style worship services. Assisting with special music for the services will be Karl and Joyce Nielson. The services are being planned by Intern Lynn Parsons and the officers of the Luther league, including Brian Cunat, Nancy Harper, Rondi Cunat and Lyn Ann Haddick. Also on Dec. 1, at both adult talk-back sessions held im mediately following the worship services, a geographical and topographical look at the Holy Land will be presented by Norman Macdonald, Jr. He recently returned from the Holy Land and will share in sights, knowledge and in formation gained from an extended study of the area. On Dec. 8, during the adult talk-back sessions at the church Sunday morning, Intern Lynn Parsons will share with the adults a discussion of the travels of Jesus during his childhood. Intern Parsons had prepared a paper on this aspect of the life of the Christ during his studies at Wartburg seminary, Dubuque, Iowa, and has an interesting presentation to make. The special series will con clude with a slide and lecture presentation Saturday, Dec. 14, at 7:30 p.m. by Dr. Edwin Schick, chairman of the Department of New Testament Studies at Wartburg seminary. Dr. Schick is a seasoned ar chaeologist and has led a number of archaeological expeditions in the Holy Land. He recently returned from Caesarea, where he was on an American Legion Auxiliary Neim A compliment makes more friends for you than the truth. MCHENRY UNIT NO. 491 By Pearl Cooper Civil Defense and Emergency Planning chair man, Jean Sherwood, of the McHenry unit of the American Legion auxiliary, has an nounced that Saturday, Dec. 7, is Civil Preparedness day. Peacetime disasters still kill hundreds of Americans every year, injure thousands, inflict widespread suffering and hardship and cause great economic loss. In this time of peace, Civil Preparedness focuses special attention on informing the citizens of the United States of the need to prepare for natural disasters in preference to those caused by nuclear attack. It covers such things as air pollution, severe storms, major accidents, large scale fires, etc. Mrs. Sherwood also states that booklets and pamphlets are available through the local Civil Preparedness Office, (formerly Civil Defense).
