DECE i MBER «, 1»74 / V mm " m " Open Concert Series Dec. 12 The first of three concerts comprising the Saint John the Baptist concert series will be held in the church at Johnsburg Thursday evening, Dec. 12, at 8 p.m. Admission is without ticket and without charge. The program of Christmas music will be sung by the congregation's three choirs, including the choir of Saint John's, the choristers and the choirboys with the in- ST. JOHN'S CHURCH CHOIR strumental ensemble, soloists L and organ under the direction of John R. Heidinger. Opening the program will be Benjamin Britten's "A Ceremony Of Carols", a setting of nine carols in old English for women's voices and soloists sung by the choir of Saint John's. Mary Idstein, Judy Oeffling and Yvonne Matt will be the soloists for this work, with Pearle Olsson at the organ. Writtejh by Mr. Britten in 1942, thtf "Ceremony of Carols" has become one of the English composer's most "Forty Carats" Opens popular compositions. It will be sung in its entirety, including the porcessional and recessional which frame the nine carols making up the work. The combined children's choirs, the choristers and choirboys, will present a montage of carols from many lands as the second part of the program, opening with the Dutch "Slumber My Jesulein." Included in this portion of the concert will be carols from Russia, the Czech carol, "Little Jesus Sweetly Sleep," the Jamaican "Mary's Little Boy Child," and the American spiritual, "Go Tell It On The Mountain." The children will close their portion of the program with the Huron Indian carol "Jesus Ahatonhia," accompanied by flute and drums. The choir of Saint John's will return for the third section of The Johnsburg public school board of education and ad ministration would like to in form the public concerning the results of a recent survey in their school newsletter publication "Info-12" in answer to the question: "A survey last year in Jfohnsburg's school district indicated that one of the greatest educational concerns the concert with the Christmas music of J.S. Bach drawn from his "Magnificat in D" and "Christmas Oratorio." The choir will sing the "Suscepit Israel" with flute and organ, and three extended chorales from the "Christmas Oratorio" with organ and trumpets. The instrumental ensemble will play two carols for brass and" flutes including "O Come All Ye Faithful" and "Hark! The Herald Angels Sing." The choir will close the concert with two motets by Monteverdie "Angelus ad Pastores" and "Hodie Christus Natus Est" and the shepherd's farewell to the Holy Family from Berlioz's "The Infancy Of Christ, "Thou Must Leave Thy Lowly Dwelling." The other two concerts making up the Saint John the Baptist 1974-75 concert series will include a mid-winter concert Feb. 27, featuring the Five Mystical Songs of Ralph Vaughan Williams, and the spring concert May 15 featuring the music of Men delssohn and Brahms. "Forty Carats" is being presented by the Theatre company, a new community theatre organization, Dec. 6, 7, 13 and 14 at the Woodstock Opera House. Curtain time is 8:30 p.m. "Forty Carats" is being directed by Talutha Tesmer of Fox Lake. Her famous phrase, 'the Tesmer touch,' is backed by an extensive list of credits. She spent twenty-two years on Broadway as an actress, a dancer, a choreographer and an assistant director. She has toured the United States and Canada with Billy Rose productions including "Jum bo", "Let's Play Fair," and "Show of Shows". She has been a teacher of Theatre Technique at the Hoffman academy in Chicago, and has been dance director for the Minneapolis Aqua-Follies. She was co- founder, director and actress for the McHenry Country club dinner theatre. Among the shows she directed at McHenry Country club were "Any Wednesday," "You Know I Can't Hear You When the Water's Running." Of those who answered the survey, 51 percent chose the answer "I agree with the statement very much", 17 percent chose "Agree", 9 percent chose "Undecided", 8 percent chose "Disagree", and 15 percent chose "Disagree very much". This represents 68 percent or a two-thirds agreement factor, and a 23 percent or one-fourth disagreement factor, with 9 percent undecided Two respondents made no selection of choice, but made comments. An analysis of comments revealed that 80 percent were in the "agree very much category", 5 per cent in the "agree" category, 5 percent in the "undecided" category, 5 percent in the "disagree" category, and 5 percent in the "disagree very much" category. Based on this new citizen survey and upon reflecting on data already generated, the Johnsburg public school board of education acted to hire an outside consultant to aid in the feasibility study concerning the formation of a separate unit district within the present confines of Johnsburg Public School District No. 12.
