B 728-0267 Vocal, Band Annual Christmas Program, Dec. 15 Mrs. Mona Brown, vocal music director and John Stepanek, band director, are pleased to announce that plans for the annual Christmas program are now set and the program will be at 2 p.m. on Sunday, Dec. 15, at the Harrison school gymnasium. The program will feature the concert band, junior varsity band, cadet band, junior varsity chorus, concert choir and the double quintet. An extra added attraction will be a large mass chorus made up of ex-Harrison students, friends, parents and students of Harrison school. They will be singing the Hallelujah Chorus from the Messiah and White Christmas. Among the numbers by the concert choir will be "The Little Drummer Boy" and the junior varsity chorus, made up of fourth and fifth grade boys and girls, will be singing, among others, "We Wish You a Merry Christmas" and "Christmas Bell Canon". The junior varsity band will be playing three numbers, one of which will be "Children's Christmas March". The cadet band, which is composed of beginner students will be playing four numbers, among them will be "Good King Wenceslas". The concert band will be playing "Burnished Brass", "March of the Toys" and "Home for the Holidays", with several other numbers. The double quintet, a group of ten boys and girls will be singing five numbers on the program. The entire instrumental and vocal music department at Harrison will be involved in the choruses and bands and it should prove to be an enjoyable music filled afternoon. Mrs. Brown and Mr. Stepanek would like to extend a personal invitation to all music lovers to come and give their support to some fine young musicians. Buch, owner and operator of the local amateur radio transmitting station 9CEB was given a very nice newspaper comment for ser­ vices rendered on the night of Dec. 2. Mr. Buch was the first McHenry young man to install such a station and receive a government license for the operation of same. Four spring lambs were killed by dogs on the W.E. Whiting farm south of this city. The animals were in a field about forty rods from the farm home. The lambs at present market prices were worth from $14 to $16 each. The next dance at Smith's hall, Ringwood, will take place Friday evening, Dec. 12. Frank Gans Polly Prim orchestra will again furnish the music. Last Thursday all the girls of the high school met in the auditorium and were urged to come out for basketball. McHenry county has seven students enrolled in college at the University of Illinois. Alice E. Miller of McHenry is one of the seven. Illinois faces the greatest shortage of clover seed in its history and the farmers' salvation is to grow alfalfa according to a statement by the Blue Valley Creamery in­ stitute. A social meeting of the Altar and Rosary society of St. Patrick's church took place at the home of Mrs. C.W. Stenger on Main street and as a result of the meeting $35 was cleared which is to be placed into the chimes fund. Mrs. T.J. Walsh saw "Ap­ plesauce" at the LaSalle theatre in Chicago. FORTY YEARS AGO (Taken from the files of Dec. 13, 1934) Mail from the local post of­ fices is now dispatched to Chicago at 2:55 p.m. and 6 p.m., with no mail leaving on the morning train. Lyle Bassett, son of Mr. and Mrs. Eber Bassett, West McHenry, was united in marriage on Wednesday evening to Miss Vivian Sweitzer of Houston, Tex., at the home of the bride's parents. A reproduction by local talent of the W.L.S. barn dance show as given in Chicago each Saturday night will be given in Memorial hall, Richmond, this weekend. The show will be coached and directed by a talented director from the W.L.S. staff. The show is sponsored by the Ringwood, Hebron and Solon Mills Home Bureau. Local talent includes Charles, Stanley, Richard and Harold Vycital, George Vales, Chester Howard, Stanley Schaffer and Henry Schaffer, who compose the little German band, Arthur Whiting, Gerald Hamil, Peter Hamil, Rollo Chamberlin, Andrew Eddy and Bob Peterson of McHenry. Mrs. Christine Buss, who broke her hip several months ago, is still confined to her bed at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Phil Hoffman, at Terra Cotta. Andrew Jepson of Stanford, Vt.,. is spending the winter in the home of his brother, C.J. Jepson of Ringwood. Sidney Wanzer announces the marriage of his sister, Phyllis Kathryn, to Richard Hamilton Carr in Chicago Nov. 20. Mr. Wanzer and his sister have been summer residents at Chapel Hill for several years. At a recent meeting of the directors of the McHenry Township Emergency Relief Association plans were made for the work of filling Christ­ mas baskets for the needy of this vicinity. TWENTY-FIVE YEARS AGO (Taken from the files of Dec. 22, 1949) Firemen were called to the Walter Hintze residence at Griswold Lake Tuesday evening to extinguish flames which destroyed a water pump motor in the basement of the home. Ruth Johnson of McHenry, sophomore student at Beloit college, is a member of the college's senior vesper choir which recently presented itM annual Christmas candlelight service. Illinois was well represented in the air tactical school class which graduated at Tyndall Air force base at Panama City, Fla., on Dec. 18. In the lint of graduates was Capt. Norman E. Bloomgren, son of Mr. and Mrs. Lewis A. Bloomgren, Hr , of Pistakee Bay. Jury members from McHenry on the new petit Jury to serve in the January term are Roland Ensign, Ben J. Schaefer, Grace Murphy and William Meyers. Warren Jones spent several v days the first of the week in Buda, 111., where he was soloist at a vocal concert. Sunday evening he appeared in a performance of the "Messiah" presented at the First Baptist church of Elgin. The Christmas party that was held at the Admiral plant this year on Dec. 15 was one that will be long remembered. The Admiral company served its employees a luscious dinner. After dinner the general manager Stephen Zriny and his staff received gifts and at the close of the afternoon the Admiral company once again distributed the Christmas bonus checks. Mr. and Mrs. Thomas L. Mercure of Lily Lake announce the engagement of their daughter, Carol Jean, fo Morris Ketchum. Miss Mercure is employed at the local cleaners while the bridegroom-to-be an employee of the Clark Chevrolet Sales. ^ TEN YEARS AGO (Taken from the files of Dec. 17, 1964) Rodney Mauch of McHenry participated in "A weekend aft Bradley" for high school seniors on Dec. 12 and 13. The event is sponsored by the student board of activities at Bradley University, Peoria. Dan Justen of McHenry is one of six men to serve on the advisory committee to the Mortuary Science curriculum at Southern Illinois university and spent last Friday in Car- bondale in that connection. Six week old Richard Michael Powers died Tuesday morning Dec. 15 of virus pneumonia. The baby was the son of Mr. and Mrs. John Powers. The Ringwood Methodist church this past week welcomed a new minister in the person of Rev. Ronald An­ derson. The Ringwood church is his first full time pastoral assignment in a local church. The Chicago and North Western Railway company has announced that because of g r o w i n g c o m m u t e r requirements it has placed an order for the immediate con­ struction of ten new bi-level coaches to augment the railways completely modern commuter train fleet. Members of the McHenry county board of realtors who attended the first annual Real Estate institute sponsored by the Illinois Association of Real Estate boards were Mrs. Claude McDermott of McHenry and Horace Wagner of Wonder Lake. Gregg Burg surprised his parents by arriving at O'Hare Airport Friday on a permanent basis.
