The important thing is not that it is so simple, but it really stands for what we believe. We are a group of people who believe in doing theatre, not just plays. These last four months have been a long haul, but I feel that we have accomplished what we set- out for.** * Harrison's has been the longest haul, however. In ad dition to producing "Forty Carats" he has handled a major share of the publicity, designed the set, helped build and decorate it, did the programs, assembled the set and hand props along with his wife, Sharon, and played the lead role of Peter Latham in the show. "I suppose that I have worked hard," says Harrison, "but no harder than anyone else. Talutha (Tesmer, the director) has put many extra hours into this show. It can really be seen. Nancy Kole (who plays Ann Stanley, the female lead) has been really great to work with and gives one of the best performances I have ever seen on local stage. Also, my wife, Sharon, Theresa Bill, Ron Parks, Dave Huffman - all of these people have given 100 percent. Everyone's been really great." When asked how he saw "Forty Carats," Harrison replied: "It's really a good show, in spite of the fact that it was panned so hard in Chicago But the Chicago show is nothing like ours. For one thing, it was done in the round - ours is done on a stage. They cut out four very important characters, and made Peter Latham a 27-year- old In my opinion, this all will detract from the show." "Forty Carats" has gone from a summer idea to a full Noted Doctor Speaker At Health Care Dinner The Annual meeting for members of the Family Service r f" Mental Health Clinic for cHenry County will be held Wednesday, Jan. 29, Mario Perez, president, has an nounced. The meeting will be held at the Branded Steak House, Crystal Lake, with a social hour at 6:30 p.m. Sitdown dinner is planned for 7:30 D.m. Ar tists from the area will have paintings and sketches on display. vations will be needed and may be made by calling the Family Service and Mental Health clinic at McHenry. Perez noted that the clinic has the wide support of many people who serve through participation in the auxiliary and as members of the clinic through their attendance at the annual meeting. Many needs of the clinic must be purchased by funds made available through volunteer contributions-money raised by fun drives and benefits. While some tax money comes to the clinic, many needs cannot be CARYN LYNN SIVERTSEN ENGAGED--Mr. and Mrs. Harland J. "We are sorry that we couldn't accommodate all of the people who wanted to make reservations. Next year we will try to anticipate a much larger group." Donations from area businessmen also evidenced the community support which has always been given. Proceeds from this event help the clinic to further its work. Some of the many ser vices performed by the clinic are family counseling, in dividual therapy, psychiatric testing and evaluation, con sultation with patients in local hospitals, and counseling on alcoholism and drug related abuses. McHenry Man Theatre Founder Stars In First Production Frank Harrison, McHenry, is the founder of The Theatre company and the producer of ttite group's first production, "Forty Carats." "Forty Carats" opened at the Wood stock Opera House last qfeekend, and will continue to run 'through this Friday and Saturday at 8:30 p.m. The idea of forming a new c o m m u n i t y t h e a t r e organization in McHenry county was conceived in the summer of 1974 by Harrison and a few friends. "It wasn't really conceived as a group in the formal sense, at first," he said. "We just wanted to get together with other interested people, some of whom hadn't been involved in theatre for some time. We all naturally chose Woodstock for the center of our activities, not because of its geographic location, but because of the magnificent Opera House which had, in one way or another, spawned all of us into community theatre. The idea was that if, after the show, everyone wanted to go their own ways, so be it. Also, if we wanted to stay together, that was all right too. And it looks like we will all stay together after "Forty Carats;" Everybody is up to do another show just as soon as we can." The name of the organization was just picked out of the air. Says Harrison, "We needed a name to identify ourselves to the community, and The Theatre company was what someone suggested. It sounded so absurdly simple that we all Estab l i shed 1875 3812 West fc lm S t ree t Phone 385 0170 McHenry I l l i no is 60050 Pub l ished Every Wednesday & Fr iday a t McHenry , I l l i no is Second Class Pos tage Pa id a t McHenry , I l l i no is Bv McHENRY PUBLISHING COMPANY Lar ry E Lund Pub l isher Ade le Froeh l ich Ed i to NATIONAL NEWSPAPER _£M*£i_ii!£ f , r , r r „ , |= ] NNA SUSTAINING ( NEWSPAPER 1 * »•' 81 MEMBER - 1974 SUBSCRIPTION MATES 1 Year $9.00 1 Year $12.50 I n McHem y and L. ik> Outs ide McHenry and County Lake County Reviewing the success of a fashion show presentation with Keith Stocker, president of the sponsoring store, are Sandra Dodge, Barbara Powers and Sandra Bishop.
