Trying to be merry at Christmas time is a bit hard this year. Death came fast to our dear Linda who worked in our office since her high school days. She was a vibrant, fun-loving girl and a great favorite with all who knew her or worked with her. The loss her husband, little 3- year-old daughter and family- suffer cannot be matched by the rest of us co-workers. But the loss is a heavy burden for all of us. We all loved our Linda. News of her death stunned our office group and knocked the props out from under us. While a heavy cloud hangs over us, we know that heaven will be brighter. Those people that say the White Socks stink just don't know how to spell Sox. I had hoped that with Ron Santo moving to the White Sox it would make them strong enough to have a World Series right here in Chicago. O Well, the Cubs will wait foptfhe Sox to build a new team and along about 1980 this may well come true. Have a Good Season, Biff outnumber the men by such a wide margin that we don't have a chance. But, we didn't fare too badly. Marie set us up in Wayne's big chair while we packed in the goodies -then sat back to watch • "Brenda" act as Mrs. Santa Claus As the gals (a good lookin' friendly bunch) opened their gifts, we heard the usual O-oohs and A-a-hs. "Isn't it darling? -- "Just what I wanted." And all those expressions only the fair ladies can let out. 'Twas fun. Clyde Blackwell, old Santa himself, left a novel gift for us featuring the White Sox. We'll have to show that around. Now that Christmas is over we hope to sit down and look over the cards and nice notes received. It will be the second reading. Some think the card greeting has become too expensive and at least one person admitted waiting to see if certain people had kept him on their list. If he gets one, he sends one. Maybe some day we will find a new way of greeting. As of now, we love to get those cards. Player of the Ht'eek I I TERRY REILLY Terry came off the bench to spark the offense. Well, we had our first weekend with snow on the ground and the idiots ran wild. ^ These are not true snowmobilers. They have no concern for our sport. They were just out Jliere for a few cheap thrills at the expense of all snowmobilers. They ran wild anywhere they pleased giving the whole sport a black eye. If we as snowmobilers are to preserve our sport and the trails,, and other snowmobile areas we have developed every organized snowmobil^r must watch his area and jump all over any violator they find. As a result of a few thoughtless idiots tearing up some winter wheat fields, cutting fences, buzzing homes, destroying signs, etc., last weekend several clubs have lost land they had written permission to ride. (A reminder to all snowmobilers you or your club must have written permission to ride on any property as required by law or you are trespassing and subject to arrest.) If you are afraid to stop the violators yourself, call the local police or sheriff's office, but they cannot be everywhere and it takes time to respond so get a group of your club together and protect your area. We need to get rid of these thoughtless individuals one way or another or we will not have a sport. The only place we will have to ride is our own back yards if we don't get banned even from there. Last weekend there was no frost in the ground and the snow was not deep enough to sustain more than a couple of snowmobiles before the ground was exposed and the winter wheat destroyed. Also there was several instances of people cutting fences and driving their cars and trailers across the fields cutting deep ruts, to pick up disabled machines. Non-snowmobilers if you are having trouble with thoughtless snowmobilers in your area contact your local snowmobile club, they are the concerned sportsmen out to preserve their sport and they will take care of the problem. If you do not know how to contact your local club, ask your local snowmobile dealer for the name and address of a club in the area. He should help you as he should be just as concerned as the club ir) taking care of any complaint. If possible get the registration numbers off the side of the machine as well as the make or color and turn these in both to your local club and the local police or sheriff's office. They will both follow up on these- complaints. Some clubs will even give you a written report on the actions taken and the results of these actions taken to take care of your complaint. The concerned clubs want to preserve their sport and keep the areas they have open to snowmobiling. Snowmobile idiots take WARNING there are twenty- four clubs in Lake County and fifteen in McHenry County looking for you.
