Jan. 3,10, and 17,1975) NIGHT BEFORE CHRISTMAS "Dear Editor: ^ " 'Twas the night before Christmas and all through the house, not a creature was stirring, not even a mouse. The stockings were hung by the chimney with care in hope that St. Nicholas soon would be there'. "However, this was not the case in the home of Mr. and Mrs. Patrick Letizia and their handicapped child, 'Charlie' . "Between the hours of 7:30 -and-30 p.m. on this eve of Christmas, and while the family was out visiting relatives, burglars broke into the house, stealing and looting all Christmas packages, jewelry and household items such as TV sets, tape deck, pillow cases, bed spreads, handicapped children's playthings and many other personal items too numerous to mention in this writing. Reporter, Mike Davis. wish everyone a very Happy New Year. Now that the holidays are over I hope we can get down to some interesting articles to be printed in the paper. With everybody's help we should be able to accomplish it. It is really a pleasure to know so many of you read me, but I would like to say if you like to read what other people are doing, why not release a little information to let people know what you are doing. All you have to do is give me the facts -- I'll put it in the paper. I do not write about vacations until you return, from one -- the same goes for people in the hospital - this way you do not invite a robbery to happen. My phone number is 385-26% -- call me up sometime. Our vehicle stickers are here for all of the village residents to purchase. Quite a few people came in and bought the stickers as Christmas gifts for their children Keep this in mind for Illinois traffic"fatalities from Jan. 1, through Nov. 30, 1974, were 1.803. This compared with 2,168 for the same period in 1973. Traffic experts.. tend to disagree on the point of what caused the 17 ^percent reduc tion. Whether the decrease can be attributed to the 55 M.P.H. speed limit, fewer miles driven by the public, or some other factor remains unresolved. The experts do agree that ae significantly high percentage of fatal accidents involve drinking drivers. Unfortunately, many people next year and you can save yourself a lot of chasing around looking for a gift, and it will be appreciated all year If your chjld's birthday happens to fall in December or January this would also be a remembrance for that too -- think about it. They can't run their cars without licenses and it's a thoughtful gift in my opinion. who drive after drinking do not believe that the alcohol they have consumed has affected their driving capability. Some, in fact, think it improves their ability. ' This kind^ of erroneous assumption compounds the likelihood for tragedy.'In truth, it takes less alcohol than most people think to affect judgment and the ability to react to sudden adverse driving situations. * "I urge that drivers refrain from drinking alcoholic beverages if they plan to drive throughout the year", said Dwight E. Pitman, state Police Superintendent. ___ MR. DOIVUT SLJUW0PEN24HR$. Z 7 DAYS A WEEK! ---MR.
