Mrs. Krumpen was bOrn „ in Wexheim, Province of Rhine, Germany, in 1833. In 1845 she came with her parents to this country to a farm n£ar Racine, Wis., where they made their home for some time. She married Mr. Krumpen in 1854 and lived in Twin Lakes until 1887 when they moved to Johnsburg. L A . S.S. Rich, owner and proprietor of a farm near McCullom Lake, this week received a check from the Farrow Chickeries of Peoria for $45 prize money for early laying chicks. Mothers of McHenry are invited to meet at the hoirfe of Mrs. Alford Pouse Jan. 28 to organize a Mothers association. Mothers of small cnildren, especially, will be interested in this announcement. "FORTY YEARS AGO (Taken from the files of Jan. 17, 1935) Kenneth Cristy of Ringwood was re-elected president of the McHewy County Farm Bureau at the J^enty-first annual meeting -kkeld at the Miller theatre, Woodstock. The meeting was one of the largest gatherings ever held by the organization and it is estimated that more than 400 members of the Farm Bureau and Home Bureau attended. At the Empire theatre Sunday night a packed house enjoyed "Flirtation Walk", a musical featuring Dick Powell, Ruby Keeler and Pat O'Brien. Funeral services for Alfred J. Richardson were held at the home Jan. 10 with Rev. L.H. Bratt^in, pastor of the M.E. church officiating and Bob Peterson as soloist. The government has ap­ proved the construction of a blacktop road from the Johnsburg bridge to the four corners where the large Public Service transformer are located on the Pistakee Bay road. McHenry led in( the greatest number of licenses with nine granted while Ringwood, Johnsburg and - Solon Mills were each granted -one. One for the beer license was also granted for McHenry. TWENTY-FIVE YEARS AGO, (Taken from the files of Jan. 26, 1950) Jacob Schaefer, 71 years old, a lifelong resident of this community, died on Friday morning. Jan. 20, at St. Therese hospital, Waukegan after a brief illness. Mr. and Mrs. Maurice Gladstone left aboard the S.S. LaGuardia for a ten weeks trip abroad. They are traveling on an American Express Tour, The midget race car No. 30 belonging to the Adams Repair Shop, Johnsburg and driven by Bart Knight, took first place in the fourth heat and in the semi­ final auto races held at the International Amphitheatre in Chicago. Mr. and Mrs. Mike Freund are observing their forty-sixth wedding anniversary Jan. 27. Mrs. Roy Morrison of Lily Lake was hostess to members of the McHenry unit of the Home Bureau. Residents of Woodstock, former neighbors and friends in Ringwood and the entire county were stunned last Friday morning to learn of the death of five members of the Ralph Sch- mitz family about l:30a.m.*The five perished in a home fire, still of unknown 'causes, believed to have started following an explosion in their converted milk truck home. The Disabled American Veterans have returned a set of lost keys to W W. Walker, Jr., of McHenry attached to the keys was a DAV idento-tag miniature license tag for key rings. Congratulations are in ftrder for Henry Williams of Ringwood who last Sunday, Jan. 22, celebrated the occasion of his eightieth birthday an­ niversary and in so doing became entered in the Plain- dealer's birthday club for octogenarians. Bill Essex has announced that it has become necessary to divide his time more evenly between E s s e x - C o s t e l l o ' s t h r e e locations, McHenry, Crystal - Lake and Cary, and ap­ propriately appointed David Gelwicks as broker-manager of the McHenry office. Gelwicks has been associated with the firm for the past three years as a sales representative. He received his broker's license during the past year and has completed several real estate courses, including the prestigious three-year program at the Realtors Institute of Illinois. Tuesday evening meeting, the resignation of Jos. M. Schmitt, a chief custodian of the high school after thirty-nine years. His resignation becomes ef­ fective next July 1. The board approved the resignation of Mrs. Roy Bradley in the cafeteria, her place will be taken by Barbara Leight. To speed the .dispatch of mail leaving McHenry, the last pickup in collection boxes throughout the city will be at 4 p.m. instead of 5. These boxes are indicated by a white star on the side. McHenry township has been alloted $11,163 as its share of the motor fuel tax paid into the state treasury during December. Jan. 17 the Viscount Color Guard brought honors to their organization by placing first in both afternoon and evening competition in Arlington Heights high school. Nominate Area Business Man As Top Leader JameS^L. Althoff, Althoff Industries, McHenry, was nominated for the Albert Gallatin Business award as the best small business leader in the Chicago area. He was nominated by H.C. Reihan- sperger, Stoffel & Reihan- sperger, McHenry. The award is given for business success and com­ munity involvement. The local winner will be announced in March. Local winners go on to regional and national com­ petitions with the top prize being the gold Albert Gallatin Business award and $5,000 donated to ' the non-profit organization of the winner's choice. The program is sponsored by Zurich-American Insurance companies and is open to business leaders whose firms employ less than 250 persons. Gearm aster Employees Aid Holiday Spirit The warm hearted spirit of the holiday season was most evident again this year among employees of Gearmaster. To help others in the com­ munity have a happy holiday, employees pondered what they could do. A community relations project was quickly organized and the response from employees was over­ whelming. Food, clothing, toys and money were contributed and the amounts were so great they were able to help four area families have a merry Christmas. The new year started on a happy note for these employees who knew the satisfaction of remembering others who needed their help.
