Warriors Trounce Mundelein 94 to 55 \ PAGE 7 - PI.AINDE.VLEK WEDNESDAY. JANUARY 15, 1975 By Dick Rabbitt Coach Ken' Ludwig's McHenry high Warriors remained one game behind Zion and Libertyville in the North Suburban as they defeated Mundelein here last Friday night 94 to 55. Once again it was balanced scoring combined with an aggressive defense that paved the way for a Warrior victory. The clock had only ticked off five seconds when Koerber's layup put the Warriors on the board and from that time on they never trailed throughout the game. With all five starters scoring in the opening period the Warriors raced out to a 24 to 16 margin lead. At the 7:00 mark in the second period Kasprzyk's bucket put the locals ahead 30 to 19, and a few seconds later Reilly's basket added two more points. « The Warriors then hit a cold spell, but the defense took over and the Mustangs could not close the gap as they walked off at intermission leading 42 to 33. In the third period the Warj-iors put the game out of reach of Mundelein. With Koerber and Zeller hitting the boards as well as the basket the running Warriors broke out toa 57 to 35 lead before Mundelein could counter with 6 straight points, and the Warriors went into the final period leading 63 to 42. During the final period ihe Warriors reserves took over and they managed to outscore the visitors 31 to 13 to bring the final to a 94 to 55 win Koerber led the scoring with 23, Zeller came up with 16, Stark had 12, and Terry Reilly coming off the bench had 10. Mundelein's slow down pattern didn't work as the Warriors forced the Mustangs to play their type of ball. It was a run and shoot game with plenty of fouls (57 were called by the officials) and at times it looked like a parade to the free throw line. The defense was outstanding. Geisser, the leading scorer for the Mustangs, got 16 but a half dozen of those were in the closing minutes against the reserves. Marty Zeller did a fine job of guarding him. Kenne Ludwig did a fine job on Sorby holding him to two baskets, however, Sorby did make 8 out of B from the line. The win puts the Warriors Stark 6 conference record at 3 «and 1, Koerber 8 with two big ones coming up Kasprzyk ' 5 this weekend. They travel to K. Ludwig l Dundee on Friday, and host Reilly 4 Barrington here on Saturday T. I.udwig o night.
