And, tragically, there are some folks who feel that way much of the time. But while the world in which we live leaves a lot to be desired, it's our world. And life in that world is pretty much what man him self has made of it. The God who created us and our universe had some excellent plans for life as it should be. They are clearly set forth in the Bible whose writing He inspired. And they have become the spiritual blue print of constructive living for millions of believers. As the earth continues its endless turning, search for your goals in faith--not escape. . .in the Word of God--not the words of cynics. Wonder Lake Bible Church 7501 Howe Road, Box No. 2 Rev. Its pathway has been strewn with some failures, but also with many successes. Its ac complishments were not achieved by worldly wisdom and human ingenuity, but by the wisdom of God and the power of the 'Holy Ghost." These were the words of leaders of the Island Lake Church of God this week. The beginning of the Church of God was small. When it was officially organized only eight persons presented themselves for membership. Today it has 10,002 ministers; 9,555 chur ches; 710,163 members; and many attending constituents in ninety-eight countries and territories around the world. In the last two years it gained 486 ministers, 737 churches, and 75,456 members. By faith the Church of God of Island Lake, with headquarters in Cleveland, Tenn., began church services Sept. 8,1974, in the Island Lake grade school as a temporary meeting place. The Island Lake grade school is on Greenleaf avenue at Fair field drive in. Island Lake. The Church of God of Island Lake had its official organization service with the Rev. Merle Baker, district overseer, directing the service Sunday, Jan. 12, 1975. The transferring of membership of several families was done at this time. The Church of God of Island Lake has now begun an "Out Reach" program for 1975. For transportation or in formation call 312-526-3161 or 312-526-8056, or write Church of God of Island Lake, Post Office Box 365, Island Lake, 111., 60042. Holiday Hills Karen Kottke 385-6675 PLAN CENTENNIAL St. John's Evangelical Lutheran church, Woodstock, is celebrating its centennial during 1975. Re-dedication Sunday will be held Jan. 26 at the 8:30 a.m. and 11 a.m. services. The Rev. Edmund Happel, president, northern Illinois district, Lutheran church, Missouri synod, will be guest speaker at both services. Rescue Squad Sponsors First Aid Classes An effort is being made to enroll the general public in first aid classes for their own benefit. This effort is being sponsored by the Lake Region Rescue Squad. If the enrollment is large enough, the classes will be held at the Island Lake grade school. These, of course, will be evening classes. Carmon Hodges of McHenry has kindly consented to conduct the classes. If you would like to become a member of the class or have any further questions, please contact Linda Thietje, at 385-6483. Naturally, women, men, and older teens are all invited to enroll. WOMEN'S CLUB NEWS First, a reminder, that the February meeting of the Holiday Hills Women's Club has been scheduled to convene on Feb. 19, because the regular date is Ash Wednesday. Opening in all offices are available. The following offices need filling; President, Vice- P r e s i d e n t , S e c r e t a r y , Treasurer, (2) for the Ways and . Means Committee, and (2) for the Entertainment Committee. Let's all consider these positions for the next few weeks. The Women's Club also sent donations to the Pioneer Center for the Exceptional, The Lake Region Rescue Squad, their yearly contribution to the Girl Scout and Brownie troops from the area, and purchased much, needed goods for the Downey Vets Home. EIGHTBAND JAM SESSION *" Come one, come all, to the Eight Band Jam Session at Connie's on 31, Sunday, Jan. 26. This may be a once in a life time happening for your en joyment. The entire jam session idea was conceived by some very good friends of the Maras family. As we all know the Marases were forced from their home by a fire a few weeks back. The entire proceeds of the event will be given to the Maras family to help them replace the goods lost in the fire that totally destroyed most of their home. The Session begins at 4 p.m. and continues till 10 p.m. So we hope to see an enormous crowd fill the place! BIRTHDAYS Birthday greetings to Pat Hughes on Jan. 25; to Connie Catanzaro and Helen Salter on Jan. 26; to Ken Carlson and Rosemary Canady on Jan. 29; to Chris Connell and Ruth Ann Strossner on Jan. 30 and to Dick Hallberg on Jan. 31. The 1974 Census of Agriculture is the 20th nationwide farm census since the first one in 1840. Report forms are mailed out in January and the Bureau of the Census would like to have them filled out and mailed back promptly. All information is confidential by law. The results, published only in statistical form, provide the yardstick by which American agricultural advancement is measured every five years. No information can be released which might reveal the operation of an individual farmer or rancher. The most recurrent and seemingly most valid reason is that people today do too much talking and not enough listening. To close the gap people must learn to listen properly. Most importantly they must learn to listen "non eval uative ly" - which means with out arguing or passing judgement. To understand the point of view of another person without injecting individual bias is a difficult task. It requires practise. However, if and when accom plished two people together would certainly be able to solve problems beyond the capabilities of an individual alone. Being a better listener means being a better communicator. Can you explain why these common sense facts are so frequently forgotten? .... GEORGE R. JUSTEN FUNERAL HOME! 3519 W.
