PAGE 6 - PLAINDEALER - FRIDAY. JANUARY 24,1975 Eye To Eye Ken meets Kenne and if it's a battle of the stare, it appears that Warrior Kenne Ludwig at right is the victor as his opponent, Ken Hatfield is off balance as he attempts to pass off to a teammate. McHenry's hustle and speed captured a 78-39 win over Barrington. This weekend the Warriors play just one game. It's at Libertyville tonight. BASKETBAL TOM STARK In the games against Dundee and Barrington last weedend, Tom scored 16 points, captured 13 re bounds & 8 assists and had only 3 turnovers. Tom also came through with 6 clutch free throws against Dundee. In the Barrington game, Tom displayed ex- cellant defense as he held Tichy to only 6 points. Maybe it will be all right since it is a school color. The modern day lady bowlers amaze us. Scores in this issue show Kathy Miller with a 213 game in a 571 series. There are other good scores in that McHenry Rec. 7 o'clock group. In the Thirty-Niners, Mary Beth Fuchs followed a 188-511 series with 190-515. And Bea Meath hit 455 two times in a row (no mention of using her average). George Ireland's health caused him to resign as coach of Loyola's basketball team after an outstanding career. Congratulations to Nancy and Brenda for a fine showing. . Coach Gray went with a delegation to the Boylan Tennis Club over the Christmas II I I I II By Dick Rabbitt With second place at stake in the North Suburban, and the outside chance of a first place tie, the Warriors of Coach Ken Ludwig journey to Libertyville tonight for an important con ference game. Both the Warriors and the Wildcats are 5 and 1 in the conference and something has to give in tonight's battle. There is also the possibility that the ever improved Scouts of Lake Forest can knock off the ZeeBees, throwing the race into a tie for first place. The "Wildcats" are playing this year without the services of graduated all conference guard Bobby Leon, son of Coach Larry Leon. Bobby is now playing for Ohio University in the Mid-America Conference However, the veteran coach has put together another fine team. Led by Mark Mieszala a 6' 1" senior forward, and sophomore Bob Erickson a 6'2" forward. Erickson was injured last weekend, and his status is doubtful as of today. I'm betting he will be in the lineup for this important game. Another starter is Tom Tun- nicliff who has been averaging about 9 points per game. Mark Schoreder and John Erickson brother of Bob round out the starting five for the "Cats". Coach Ludwig's Warriors are beginning to show signs of a real fine ball team. Steve Koerber is hitting the hoop, and rebounding real well, Marty Zeller is showing promise of breaking loose with a 20 point effort, plus his usual good defensive play. Tom Stark is playing like the Stark of last season, defense, rebounding, and has begun to hit the hoop. The guards Kenne Ludwig, and Steve Kasprzyk really play defense like it should be played, plus the fact that give them an opportunity, they will hit bullseye consistently. The play of the bench is the last several weeks has been the key to the Warrior success. With Stine, Reilly, and Tommy Ludwig all waiting in the wings, and ready to pick up the slack, Coach Ludwig can really go to the bench and won't be hurting his ball team one bit. So let's all journey to Libertyville tonight and support the Warriors. Remember next Friday night is ORANGE NIGHT at West Campus. The Pep Club is going all out to try and fill the gym for the game with North Chicago. They are making a plea that every Warrior fan wear something with a bit of Orange. Let's hope that the South Balcony will be opened for the first time in several years. Remember Orange Night Jan. 31st. holidays to get in a little practice for the coming season. Also it should be noted that McHenry high school West has three indoor tennis courts open to the public on Sundays from 2 to 5 p.m. "Hassling99 Warriors Of MCHS Split Double Dual McCullom Lake Conservation Club Good News for sportsmen! By Di£k Rabbitt Coach Marty Sobczak's "Rassling Warriors" jour-' neyed to Woodstock last Saturday and came away with a split in a double dual meet. They lost to Harvard 28 to 12 in the morning session, but came back to defeat Harlem of Rock ford 36 to 12 in the afternoon. Ken Scanlin and Steve Lane continued on their winning ways, each winning both matches. Ken's record is 16 and 2 for the season, and Steve is right behind him with a record of 14 and 2. With the caliber of competition these boys face, congratulations are sure in order for both Ken and Steve. George Hansen was the only other Warrior to win both his matches. Next home meet is tonight when the Libertyville Wildcats come to West campus. If you want to see some good high school competition, I suggest you beat the West campus gym at 6:45 p.m. tonight.
