Some^ people love cats and some love dogs. Did you ever notice how some dogs really do resemble their owners? Is this t rue about cats? I think the - person who prefers a dog is the leader type. It takes a good leader to ration out just enough discipline and love to produce an alert, obedient and friendly dog. Some famous dog owners in clude Napolean, many of our presidents, Richard Burton, Elizabeth Taylor, Jean Harlow, Jane Fonda, Johnny Carson, and the Royal Family of England. A person >yho prefers cats is more of a caring person. They don't expect too much in return for what they give, but they do enjoy giving. He is mostly Basset, 2 year Ed and Carl put together a plastic cylinder that's going to help keep your rates down. It's called a vacuum chamber weld tester. It's not too fancy, and it doesn't have any microcircuits or chrome trim, but it could save us more than $100,000 a year. Ed Steeve, Commonwealth Edison engineer, designed it; Carl Knutson, Assistant Shop Superintendent, helped put it together at our Maywood Technical Center. The vacuum chamber consists of a short, transparent plastic cylinder that's slightly larger in circumference than the pipe it's testing. We fasten it around the weld, where the leaks are hkely to occur, then seal it airtight. The space between pipe and cylinder is then partially filled with a clear liquid (usually water) and a vacuum pump is attached to remove the air. If there are any leaks in the weld, the air from inside the pipe will create a column of telltale bubbles. It's a simple process, but vitally important. When we put cables in underground pipes, we expect them to last for many years. A pin-hole leak would result in a cable failure, a loss of power, and a loss of "valuable man-hours in repair work. We have been testing welds by other methods, which were time-consuming, and cost as much as $14,000 for every mile of pipe. But our new vacuum chamber device will do the same job for a fraction of that cost. The money we save will help keep your rates down. And the time we save will give our Commonwealth Edison engineers a chance to do a little more of that valuable experimentation. Below are some representative queries. Ad ditional information may be obtained at any VA office. Q - A service-connected injury for which I received .treatment at a Veterans ad ministration hospital about two years ago is giving me trouble again. Will VA treat me again? A - Yes, and since you have already established service- connection, all you need do is apply for treatment again. Q -- I'm a veteran in a state which has no burial space left in its national cemetery. Does the Veterans administration pay anything toward cost of burial plots in private cemeteries for such veterans? A - Yes, Public Law 93-43 (June 1973) allows VA to pay up to $150 in plot and interment costs of veterans not buried in national cemeteries. Q - - 1 b o u g h t a c a r s i x y e a r s ago with an auto grant from the Veterans administration, and the adaptive equipment is wearing out. Will VA replace this equipment? A - Yes. Since enactment of PL 91-666 in 1971, VA has been authorized to repair or replace adaptive equipment for eligible service disabled veterans. Suggest you apply to your regional VA office for this benefit. * * * * By the way, what was the name of the last sensible book you read? * * * * Schoolboy question: What difference would it make if everyone were dumb.
