c On The Mines With Dick Rabbitt The McHenry Warriors need help badly from an Eastern division team in the North Suburban. The ZeeBees are still undefeated with only four games remaining on the schedule. The Warriors trailing by one, thought they might get some help, from Libertyville last week, but the Cats fell 68 to 47. Lake Forest looks like the only hope as they host the ZeeBees tonight. Both North Chicago and Libertyville must play the ZeeBees again, but their chances seem slim * for an upset. Anyway all Warrior fans will be pulling for a Zion defeat, hoping the Warriors can continue on their winning path. If the Warriors play like they did in the third period against Woodstock, have no fear. If perfect basketball was ever played by a high school team it was the Warriors for eight minutes last Saturday night. If they could ever put four quarters together like they played Saturday night, even the Celtics would be in trouble. The Warriors are hoping to put two more in the win column this weekend. Coach Ken Ludwig is only two games shy of winning his 100 game as McHenry coach. It is quite an achievement for Ken, as his initiaLsefcson at McHenry was a disastrous 0 and 21. Well, here is hoping that the Coach will hit the century mark in wins over the weekend. There are going to be some changes in the I.H.S.A. rules about Girls Athletics. Dixon high school won the Girls Bowling Tournament last weekend with four of the participants being boys. The rule states if a school has no sport for either one of the sexes, the other can participate. That is provided it is a non contact sport. I'm sure it was a test case, and no doubt there will be a court ruling on the case. It is too bad that it happened, because if the courts or the State Association cannot make a decision, we will find softball teams this spring loaded with boys. I hope the Association will wake up and make their decision favorably to the girls in the very near future. I guess it is a sign of the times that even schools will extend themselves to the limit, to go with the rules of the game, but not the spirit of the game. The McHenry Athletic Department has taken a step in the right direction. That dapper gentleman you see sitting on the Warrior bench at basketball games is none other than Earl Cooper. Earl in an unofficial capacity is the team trainer. He takes care of the various aches and pains of the high school athletes. When he hasn't a boy sitting in the whirlpool, you can find him taping ankles, soothing a boy's feelings, or doing the many jobs that a trainer has been asked to do by the coaching staff. Speaking from years of experience, I know that the coaching staff, and the athletes will appreciate Earl as the season progresses. With the heavy schedules, and the day to day grind of the athletes, a trainer is almost a must today in high school athletics. Welcome to the fold, Earl, and may your stay be a pleasant one. Don't forget the District Wrestling Tournament thi*-, weekend at Woodstock. The Warriors have some boys capable of going into'the Sectionals next week at Rockford Boylan. It has been several years since we had a District winner, maybe this is the year. Good Luck to Coach Sobzcak and his Rassling Warriors. McCullom Lake Ice Fishing Derby Event Coming Feb. 22-23 The ice-fishing derby the McCullom Lake Conservation club is sponsoring will be held Saturday, Feb. 22 and Sunday Feb 23 from 9 a.m., to 4 p.m. McCullom Lake is easily accessible, and directional signs will be posted for ad ditional help. Grayslake the tourney favorite, Grant, and our McHenry Warriors Coach Sobzcak has high hopes lor some of the Warriors to advance to the Rockford Sectional. Ken Scanlin at 105 is sporting a 20 win, 4 loss, and 2 tie record for the season. Close behind is Steve Lane at 167 with 17 wins, 5 defeats, and 2 ties. Bob Fppel, who finished second hi me i\oilh Suburban last week at 185, has a 12 and 4 record lor the season. George Hansen third place finisher in the Conference is all even 10 wins and 10 losses. Matt Schuster is 6 and 12, Brian Antonou is currently 3 and 2, and heavyweight is 3 and 11 All North Suburban schools along with the Northwest Suburban, plus Rockford area schools will advance to the Rockford Sectional, which in the past has proved to be one very tough Sectional meet. The district starts tonight at 7. and matches tomorrow are at 1 and 7 Try and get out and root our Warriors on to a victory. Coach Sobzcak has high hopes for some of his grapplers.
