PAGE 6 - PLAINDEALER-FRIDAY. FEBRUARY 28, 1975 U Warriors In Season Final At Crystal Lake Friday By Dick Rabbitt The "Fighting Warriors" of Coach Ken Ludwig will close out their 1974-75 regular season play at Crystal Lake tonight. The Warriors sporting a nifty 20 and 4 record will go out to close the season with a win. There is always the possibility that Libertyville can upset the ZeeBees and the Warriors could share in the North Suburban title with Zion Benton. The Warriors are currently on a 12 game win streak, and are at what some coaches would call "tournament peak". They are playing great ball, and are adjusting to all types of defenses that are set up against them. Several weeks ago the Warriors defeated the Tigers 65 to 55 in a tough game. The Tigers are always tough in the fieldhouse for our Warriors. Although hit by illness and injuries recently, the Crystal Lake five of Coach John Swenson will prove a worthy foe for Coach Ludwig's McHenry team. It should be a bang up game, one that you won't want to miss. So let's all go to Tiger- town Friday night and root the Warriors on to win number 21. The Warriors open regional play at Belvidere next Tuesday at 7:30 p.m. against Honnenagh of Rockton. ROUTE TO BELVIDERE HIGH SCHOOL For fans planning on driving to the Belvidere Regional next Tuesday, take the following route. Pick up Rt. 20 at Marengo and proceed West to by-pass 20. Take by-pass 20 to Genoa Road where there will be a stoplight. Go west to the first exit beyond Genoa Road and turn right and the high school is just a few blocks north. You can't miss the high school as it can be seen from the by-pass. ICE FISHERMEN This photo shows a montage of five scenes taken at the McCulIom Lake ice fishing derby last Sunday. The two day event crowded the lake with hundreds of fishermen, who braved the cold weather to try their luck on the newly stocked lake. The derby, held for the first time in five years, was successful for the eager fishermen as they pulled over 5,000 fish from the water. The largest Northern was 31 inches, 8 lbs., 14 oz., and the Bass hit the scale at 3 lbs., 12 oz., and was 18 inches in length. The most Bluegills caught by a single fisherman totaled 26 lbs. The event, sponsored by the McCulIom Lake Conservation Club will once again become an annual one. (STAFF PHOTO-WAYNE GAYLORD Marian Romps Over Huntley 83 To 61 EARL WALSH So I Hear SPORTS EDITOR. We were taught all our life to save, but this Daylight Saving lime in February pulls our cork. Even with Standard Time there has long been a temp tation to throw the alarm clock out the window. Now the little woman bought us a ding a ling clock that can be seen in the dark. The blamed thing blasts forth while darkness still prevails and we can't believe it is time to roll out. So. We get up and turn on the lights. Is that saving energy? Not ours. 1" x 2" * 8* ^ FURRING STRIPS 40* 2" x 4" T 5/8' Pre Cut STUDS 99* 2" x 4" x 8' Construction Grade STUDS SI 09 •L Each M<;H£NR Lumber 4030 W. MAIN STREET McHENRY, ILL. 385-4600 Free Delivery Just listened to the Marian Central-Harvard tournament game which Harvard won 56 to 52. Didn't hear an alibi from announcers Tom Parsley or Vern Peterson and must give them credit. We were well aware that one of Marian's star players, An derson, was out with a sprained ankle. Bet the loss of the game hurt him worse than his ankle. Chicago newspapers opposed Richard Daley's bid for a sixth term as Mayor of Chicago, but Wednesday morning it was all Daley News. There is an old saying that every knock is a boost. If true, Daley's opponents gave him a lot of boosts. Those young fellows may have learned a lesson. It doesn't pay to get the ol' boy stirred up. We can remember way back when Big Bill Thompson had quite a machine in Chicago, but it was never as well oiled and smooth working as the Daley model. Next week reports will be coming from baseball training camps about the sure fire rookies. In a few weeks we'll hear the old one about the kid wiring home: "Coming homg, ma. They started throwing curves." John Carmichael, famous sports writer, doesn't write much these days, but had a column this week from Sarasota, Florida. He stays in the White Sox Motor-Hotel where we camped for ten days last spring and had some good visits with him. Makes us a bit envious. What's all this stuff about talking to plants? Wonder if you can do the same with weeds. We'd like to have a few words with some that come up in our lawn each year. A fellow was asking, "What's all this talk about depression and unemployment? -- 92 out of 100 workers are on the job." He went on to recall the real depression years in the 30's when 50 percent and more were out of work and there weren't so many women working in those days. By Dick Rabbitt Coach Bud Grover's Marian Hurricanes lived up to their advance notice as the premeet favorite when they easily defeated Huntley 83 to 61 at Marian Monday evening. It was the first game of the Class A regional basketball tour nament. With Bill Moerschbaecher and Sam Anderson having the - hot hand in the opening period the "Canes" managed to stay within 1 point of the hot shooting Huntley Redskins. In the second period Moer schbaecher and Nitz kept the Marian attack rolling, and they gradually pulled ahead to an 8 point lead at the intermission 38 to 29. The third period was more of the same as the Marian five shot from far and near to outdistance the "Skins" and go into the final period with a commanding lead, 61 to 43. The "Canes" may, however, have suffered a serious jolt during the period. Sam Anderson their fine 6'5" center injured his ankle, and Coach Grover isn't sure if he will be able to play any more this season. Along with Marian fans, we sure hope this isn't the case. The fourth period was typical, Coach Grover cleared his bench, and the Canes managed to outscore the We well remember that depression, but wouldn't want to see another one. The optimist with the greatest confidence is our photographer man Wayne Gaylord. He has his bags packed for a trip to Champaign with the Warriors. Redskins 22 to 18 for a com fortable 83 to 61 victory. Marian had 35 of 71 for the # game for a fine 49 percent shooting average. Huntley made 26 out of 75 for a 34 per cent average.
