An derson (R-Ill.) has announced that he is co-sponsoring legislation to close a* loophole that allows teachers to collect unemployment compensation during summer vacations. Anderson, chairman of the House Republican conference, said the loophole was created last December, when Congress- hurriedly passed a measure extending federal unem ployment compensation to, jobless workers not previously covered. "By failing to specifically exclude teachers who are not actually working at jobs during the summer, this law permits the states to extend jobless benefits to them, and Illinois has decided to do this," An derson said. "The effect is to create a windfall profit for teachers at the expense of the taxpayers," the third-ranking House Republican leader said. "Just as I am in favor of taxing windfall profits which come to the big oil companies at the expense of the taxpayer and the consumer, I am against permitting such profits to develop from government programs," Anderson added, Anderson said his measure would deny summer unem ployment benefits to any elementary or secondary school teacher who has a contract for the coming school year. The loophole does not extend to college-level faculty. Scholarship Of Woman's Club Is Increased The Woman's club of Wonder Lake is pleased to announce that its annual scholarship has been increased from $250 to $375. The club is again seeking two recipients from Wonder Lake for these scholarships, to be awarded in May. Mrs. George P. Barrett, chairman of the Scholarship committee, has announced that applications will be welcomed from all Wonder Lake students, high school or college. Ap plication forms are now available from school guidance counselors or from Mrs. Barrett. All applications must be received by the scholarship committee prior to May 1. For further information contact Mrs. Barrett, 3819 E. Lake Shore drive.
