EARL WALSH' So I Hear SPORTS EDITOR. The McHenry Warriors are Regional Champs, having beaten the Belvidere Bucs 80 to 60 Friday night in the cham pionship game at Belvidere. But, that victory didn't come without some anxious moments. Belvidere had a hot shot guard named Mark Bankord who scored 30 points. He could shoot from the outside and had the moves to get inside when he saw daylight. The kid had class. We won't go into detail since Dick Rabbitt's report tells who did what. The Bucs don't have much of a record. They must have saved it all to throw at the Warriors. And, of course, the Warriors make mistakes that the coaching staff will be calling to their attention gently but firmly. We rode the George Worts bus again. Our only complaint was looking at the sign that read "Smoking - Cigarettes Only". That's discrimination! \$&ukegan knocked Zion- Benton out of competition for the state title in a 70-65 game. It wouldn't have surprised us if the score had been reversed. Looking at a more complete list of All-Conference players in the Suburban Catholic league, we find that Mike Tonyan received honorable mention. Mike was the play maker on the Marian Central team this year and a good one. We are pleased to see that he received the honorable mention. Sorry. We ran out of space last Friday and had to hold over some pictures and news. That's show business! Our report from Marie Yegge about the snowstorm in Arizona prompts"Zeke"Bacon to write again. He gives us a geography lesson on the size of his great state and sends clippings to show the monotony of sunshine in Tuscon. They have had less than 12 inch of rain this year That would never do for our garden. "Zeke" winds up with this: "Sports note- Watch the Cleveland Indians this year. They may not win the pennant but with" their new manager, they have a real spirit. Boog Powell should furnish more power, and their pitching has been bolstered. Watch out, White Sox, the Indians are on the uprising! Hang on to your scalps." Glad you didn't predict the Indians would win the pennant, Zeke. You say it isn't the heat but the humidity that gets a fellow. We might have thought the heat got to you. Mention of the Indians makes us think of a girl whom we both know. Many years ago, her husband took her to Chicago to see the Indians play the White Sox. Imagine the let-down when she learned they weren't real Indians. Somebody (no name signed) clipped a couple of items out of recent columns referring to those great Cubs. There is a printed notation: "Frankly, I'm Bewildered." Don't let it bother you, pal. You'll be more bewildered before the season is over. Wow! Denny Conway bowled a 686 series in the Mixed League with games of 225 - 206 - 255. That Mixed League must be right down Denny's alley. We are Retting requests to run notices two or three times. AN UNLUCKY BUC - Mark Bankord (L) gets a good view of a Warrior steal as Steve Kasprzyk scoops up the ball. Steve scored 9 points in the McHenry victory over the Belvidere Bucs last Friday night. STAFF PHOTO-W AYNE GAYLORD SOPHOMORE"A" W L 1. Crystal Lake 10 3 2. Libertyville 10 3 3. Lake Forest 9 4 4. Among the highlights of legislation passed by the last Congress, and signed by the President: Under the Equal Opportunity- Act, sex discrimination is banned in the granting of credit. Historically stores, lending in stitutions, and credit card com panies have often denied credit to applicants simply because they were women This is now illegal Women applying for credit must now be judged, as male ap plicants are, on the basis of whether they have steady in comes and qualify in other respects as good credit risks The Fair Credit Billing Act assures new credit rights to all consumers If a consumer notifies a creditor about a computer error in the statement for his credit ac count, the creditor must respond within 30 days to the consumer's inquiry and must resolve the problem within 90 days.
