Coach Pat Wirtz was happy with the way the fresh men improved during the season and concluded that, "It was a successful season taking into account most aspects of the game." Wirtz noted that not only basketball skills were im proved, but also "feel for the game" along with "determined team effort" were shown by all participating team members. The team included Dan Allison, (3rd leading scorer), Steve Bazan, Gordy Brodin, Mike Burman, Tim By'ers (most improved ball player), Steve Cable (second leading), scorer), Dave Covalt, Scott Esposito, Tim Frisby, Ralph Guzman, Dan Lindahl (leading scorer), Jeff Meyers, John Meyers (hustler of the year), Dave Miller (highest free throw average), Kevin Miller, Jeff Sek. Of course, we took our share of ribbing about the Irish. What harm? It was our day and we made the most of it . Some contributions for a St. Patrick's column came in too late last week. Our sports page was all wrapped up Maybe we can use some through the year and save some for next year. Jimmy The Greek quotes odds of 15 to 1 against the White Sox winning a pennant. That's bad enough. But, just look at the odds he gives on the Cubs, 150 to 1! T h a t ' s d o w n r i g h t discouraging. The Greeks must have a name for it. We felt as badly as anybody about our Warriors losing that squeaker at Rockford, but Dick Rabbitt had covered the sub ject so ably that we didn't want to attempt to gild the lily. Basketball is a game of bounces and sometimes the ball bounces the wrong way. Coach Ken Ludwig. his close associate Ed Partenheimer, and the entire team gave us an outstanding season. We will long remember them for their great performances, not for a loss in sectional play. After all, many a fine team is edged out on that long, hard road to Champaign Had a phone call asking if we knew about Junior Freund losing a bowling match to a gal named Annie Street. No. We didn't know. Just rumors. We didn't get the score, but it seems that Junior got clob bered. He'd better stay in his own league. These frail looking little girls pack a lot of dvnamite. Early St. Patrick's morning the first robin of the spring landed in our back yard-- and a fat blimp it was. We enjoy visiting various restaurants, mostly for con versation and good fellowship lOf course, we do take a little nourishment). That "German Restaurant" played some Irish songs for us again the other night. The WITH STeaMex RENTAL UNIT No special skill required to remove grime and grit from full depth of any carpeting. Come to think of it , we must visit Tom Murphy out in Volo. We appreciate all who sent cards and phoned on the 17th of Mafeh. Even got a laugh out of one marked "REIN CARNATED IRISHMAN". It is a doozv. I SHALL PASS... I shall pass through this life but once. Any good, therefore. That I can do Or any kindness I can show to any fellow creature. Let me do it now. Let me not defer or neglect it, For I shall not pass this way again. Etienne deGrellet A New Helmet Law For Cycle Riders? The Illinois Dept. of Tran sportation and the office of the Secretary of State are eacto considering legislation that would require Illinois motor cycle riders to wear so-called safety helmets while riding their vehicles. According to a spokesman for the Federation of Illinois Riders of Motorcycles (FIRM), each governmental agency has its own reasons for and its own approach to mandatory helmet legislation. A current up-date on helmet legislation -- and the thinking for and against it -- is contained in the March issue of Illinois Cycle Rider published for FIRM members. Non-members interested in the proposed helmet law may obtain a copy of Illinois Cycle Rider by sending their printed name and address, along with 25 cents for postage and han dling, to: FIRM, Helmet Report, Box 355, Wood Dale, 111. 60191. Rick Swanson Leads Record Breaking Swim C7 Records At Western Macomb, 111. - In what has to be considered one of the best efforts, ever, by a Western Illinois swimming team, coach Verne Wilhelm's squad shat tered six school records while placing third in a field of six at the recent Independent Championships at Illinois State University. "It was unbelievable, everybody came through in a team effort." said Wilhelm. "I just hope it carries through the national meet." Western will enter 11 swimmers in the NCAA Division II Championships, March 20-22, in Cleveland, Ohio. At Illinois State, WIU Ail- American Rick Swanson (McHenry) and freshman Jeff Rusk (Skokie-Niles North) led the record-book assault. Swanson re-established his own marks with a 56.5 in the 100 yard backstroke and a 2:02.5 in the 200. The 100 time qualified him for the national meet, while the 200 pffort placed him Sports Calendar Senior Youth thru 15 will 13 >•»»»»• • •» • • • SENIOR YOUTH LEAGUE Registration for McHenry League Boys take place on Friday evening March 21st. 6:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. and Saturday, March 22nd - 10:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. at the McHenrv Fire Station. SMILES Honest Boss: I wish you wouldn't whistle while working. Miss O'Flage: But I 'm not woiking. Sure Cure Salesman: "Your wife By Dick Rabbitt The "Rassling Warriors" of Coach Marty Sobzcak have recently completed what could be called a most successful season. In the won and lost column it may not be considered so successful, a 6 won and 12 loss record doesn't really seem successful, but let's not measure the success on that point alone. Greater participation, individual improvement, and the true dedication of the fine young gentlemen in the program cannot be overlooked. Illness, injury, and the inability of losing that extra half pound, at times were costly to the Warriors. Not once during the entire season did I hear one of the coaches voice a complaint, or excuse about one of the above factors. It is a credit to Coach Sobzcak, and his fine staff, Bob Ludwigsen, Ray Mathais, and the veteran Bill Hutchinson, that they enabled the Warriors to have in what I would call a most successful program. Coach Sobzcak has initiated a Wrestling Club at McHenry. The first meeting was in the words of the coach "a complete success". With this kind of support, Warrior fans can look for a big uplift in the wrestling program at McHenry high school. Season records and Individual records follow. 1974-1975 McHENRY HIGH SCHOOL VARSITY WRESTLING TEAM RECORD Dual Matches Won 6 Lost 12 Elgin-Larkin 35 November 22,1974 McHenry 25 McHenry 55 November 26,1974 Grayslake 6 Barrington 33 December 3.1974 McHenry 15 McHenry 26 December 6,1974 Zion Benton 23 Rockford Jefferson 36 December 7,1974 McHenry 15 McHenry 28 December 7,1974 Geneva 24 Crown 41 December 10, 1974 McHenry 13 McHenry 37 December 13,1974 Lake Forest 13 McHenry 33 January 9,1975 Cary Grove 19 Mundelein 40 January 10,1975 McHenry 10 Woodstock 48 January 14,1975 McHenry 5 Dundee 40 January 17,1975 McHenry 12 McHenry 36 January 18,1975 Rockford Harlem 12 Harvard 28 January 18,1975 McHenry 12 Antioch 32 January 23,1975 McHenry 19 Libertyville 30 January 24,1975 McHenry 24 North Chicago 28 January 31,1975 McHenry 17 Crystal Lake 35 February 4,1975 McHenry 15 Tournaments HARVARD 16TEAM December 19& 20 12th Place-K.
