PAGE 14-SUPPLEMENT TO THE McHENRY PLAINDEALER-FRI., MARCH 21, 1975 Prevent make-up stains by dressing with care It's so easy and so heart breaking to ruin your fa vorite dress with a make up stain. Play it safe and protect your new wardrobe by following these simple "do's" and "don't's" when dressing. Don't live dangerously and apply mascara after putting on your dress. It's much wiser to apply it first, wait a minute or two for it to dry and then slip into your dress carefully. Do save your cuffs by rubbing on your hand lo tion in advance, too. Don't panic if an acci dent does occur. Remem ber that most makeup stains on washable fabrics will respond to a treat ment of Spray 'n Wash aerosol pre-treat. Just spray directly on the spot, wait 60 seconds and laun der normally. Do blot your lipstick with a tissue and let the tissue cover your mouth while pulling on your "pullovers." In tempo of the times, couture shows switch-'nf-swap multiples Here is a quiet, refined, well-edited super-soft col lection of misses' and women's fashions for Spring '75 ... . combining nostalgic memory with contemporary economy based on switch-and-swap multiples. Mid-calf chemises sport their own coordinate tent coats. Tank-topped black crepe pajamas come with a reversible quilted coolie jacket--black on one side, striped on the other. De tails have a soft effect: pants are updated with tiny tucks and blouses look best with deeply cowled necks. Shirts come with tuck ing and roll-up sleeves -- some to double as jackets, others as cowl-necked blouses. Sweaters--some serving as coats or dresses -- are done in boucle knits and palest, soft angora. The latter is especially impres sive in a long wrap-jacket. Jackets are often two- faced : reversible double wools in two colors, kimo no wraps, fisherman smocks, kabuki coats and quilts. Dresses are loosely fit ted--pared-down or flared chemises, tiered flounce dresses worn with or with out a wide wrapped belt. Day-into-evening jump ers team with blouses by day and big, triangular scarf shawls for evening. It's a colorful collection and the colors are excep tionally pretty: peach, carrot, celery, rose, lilac, ice mint and an intimate boudoir taupe. Natural fabrics predom inate: silk pongee, crepe, chiffon, georgette and crepe de chine; wool flan nel crepe and jersey, often in small floral prints. New eyewear: smart, functional -Flattery is the watch word this year for shapes, colors and designs in frames and lenses for all the family. The range of choice has jumped in a decade from 10 to 12 basic styles and colors to more than 9,000 different designs. Award winners this year--chosen by fashion and beauty edi tors -- are softer-colored, more sculptured, more complementary to the complexion than those of previous years. Primary colors have been replaced by smokey grey, soft lilac, amber, beige peach and brown, some times in subtle combina tions, always distinctly different from the old horn-rimmed looks. Shapes are generally big, but not giant. Geometries have given way to soft ened edges. Even square frames seem rounded. Crystal lenses are replac ing opaque shades. Newest trend in trims concentrates on the bridge and the temples, with metal circles, bands or discs imbedded in plastic frames. Children's styles are de signed for children -- not pared-down versions of mother's or dad's. Girls' glasses lean toward petal shapes in pretty, feminine colors. Boys' metal frames are heavier, departing from the thin wire look. The aviator goggle con tinues as a classic, espe cially for the young. For the groom and his men Male splendor to rival even the Bride's! Where once the bride was the center of attrac tion, dashing young grooms and their attend ants are commanding their full measure of at tention. Formal wear for the groom this Spring and Summer, once drab and lackluster ... black or grey ... is now light and bright. Many happy colors Colors like Something Blue, Happy Maize, Misty Grey, Seafoam Green, and Cloud White will be adding a happy note to the wed ding party according to After Six Formals, one of America's most influential producers of men's formal styles. The company advocates complete color coordina tion in two-tone shirts, butterfly and teardrop ties to match the jackets, with the single or double breasted vest replacing the tired old cummerbund. This Spring the bride can let her fancy go high, wide, and handsome. She now has the option of a rainbow wedding or one coordinated to a single color. Now, the men in the wedding party can be color coordinated to gowns worn by her bridesmaids. Coordinate with girls' gowns Couples planning to be married this season can choose a dashing style like the Newport in a crisp polyester style with peak lapels trimmed with matching braid. Formal trousers may be color co ordinated or the groom and his bride may decide UPDATED for Spring/Summer weddings, The Windsor features cloverleat lapels with matching braid. Half moon pockets also carry the braided accent. By After Six Formals. Spotlight on groom It becomes increasingly apparent that fashion has Anally caught up with the groom and that today his choice of wedding apparel is just as varied as the bride's. And even though today's economy may dictate a re duction in the number of guests or the lavishness of the festivities, the groom and his men may con veniently rent the outfits they will wear from their formal wear specialist. It's the way to minimize any recession blues on the most memorable day of any couple's life. Spend Easter With Us!
