YMCA Activities Open To Southeastern County Any girl, boy, woman or man living in the southeastern two- thirds of McHenry county is encouraged to join th Lake Region YMCA. All YMCA participants are either acitivity members of limited members. Persons of any age are eligible for limited mem­ bership. Limited members are able to register for a wide variety of all activities at usual fees. The minimum age to become an activity member is 7. Ac­ tivity members receive free recreational swims, free family swims (providing a parent accompanies youth in the pool) swimming instruction classes that meet one a week and begin five times a year, a reduced fee for swim classes that meet two or three times a week, and lower fees for most of the special interest classes. Membership cards are issued after the applicant completes a membership application available at the YMCA and pays dues for one year. After a year of membership, everyone is encouraged to renew the membership. New activities begin every ten weeks, and members are urged to register for the activity of choice early. Pictures are needed for membership cards. A picture or use the picture machine in the lobby. All members receive the opportunity to participate in fee club programs which include Indian Princess, Indian Guides, Maiden Travelers, Warriors and Y's Men's, first notification of new activities, and are en­ couraged to bring one or two free guests at a time to recreational swims and one free guest family at a time to family swims. New activities being every ten weeks. They begin in early April, mid-June, early Sep­ tember, mid-November and late January. Also, every two weeks during the summer for daily swimming lessons. See specific ten week special in­ terest schedule for details and for summer camping. A comprehensive in­ structional swim program is conducted for youth and adults. Classes meet once a week. Martinez Guest Speaker On Alcoholism Dr. Salvador Martinez, M.D., medical director of the Family Service and Mental Health Clinic for McHenry County, was featured speaker at a meeting of the Chicago Medical society, Douglass Park branch March 19. Dr. Martinez spoke to the group of about sixty on recent research and findings on the treatment of alcoholism and alcohol-related problems. In addition to his work with adult mental health patients at the local clinic, Dr. Martinez also serves as consultant for the Alcoholism and Drug Abuse programs of the clinic. McHenry Brownies recorded a "first" Saturday, March 15, when Troop 461 members enjoyed their first over-night outing. Twenty-three young girls spent the night at the K. of C. hall, which had been made available to them by the Knights of Columbus. The evening was spent in working on projects and playing games. After a good night's sleep, they ate heartily of a pancake breakfast. Sally Glosson is leader and Janet Anderson, co-leader of the troop. They were assisted at the outing by Pat Kollenkark. Four Girl Scouts who helped where Sheila O'Neil, Karen Truckenbrod, Julie Glosson and Susan Bolger. Persons participating in ac­ tivities who use the locker rooms must present a valid, picture membership card to be exchanged for a locker key. Pool rules require a clean swimming suit to be carried by each participant. Shoes must be worn to and from the building. Persons with hair over six inches in length need swim caps.
