(STAFF PHOTO-WAYNE GAYLORD) '¥ !L Just received an offer in the mail from somebody who wants to send us a "Do It Yourself " kit. We threw it away before the little woman could read it and get ideas. The Wendell Phillips basketball teapi left no doubt about being number one in the state. Those boys have everything, including quick hands. We noticed that the good teams in the state tournament used the bounce pass much of the time. Guess you can't pass over the heads of those giants on defense. Teams that can put on the full court press seem to be tough for most to handle. It puzzles us to know why teammates don't come to the rescue of a fellow trying to get the ball over the line or pass in from out of bounds. Chicago schools have been dominating the state tour nament in recent years. Downstate teams had their day. FOR ALL YOUR EASTER iFLOWERS EARL WALSH So I Hear SPORTS EDITORJ It is time for us to make our annual protest against the foul rule in basketball. Those little tap on the wrist fouls aren't going to hurt anybody. Give em the free throws if need be. but don't put that good player out of the game. Other sports have penalties, but players stay in the game unless it is one of those things where the officials have to give them the old heave ho. Fans put their money on the line to see the best in action. Let's keep em in there. Story For Men Only-- Mrs. Hennessy was out driving and for the first time she noticed linesmen working up on telegraph poles. 'What are they doing up there?' she asked her husband. 'Nothing.' he said. 'They heard you were coming.' Stock Car Racing WW^WWWWWWV Rockford Speedway officials have announced the elimination of Mini-Stock racing for the 1975 season. Rising costs of the racing machinery and the lack of enough cars to field a full program are listed as the main reasons. However, the Mini-Stock Intercontinental Classic scheduled for Sept. 20, will be held. Last year, running in open "run-whatcha-brung" com petition. this event drew over 70 of the small, imported racing sedans from all over the United States and Canada. "No family is fully taking care of its welfare unless every member can learn to swim." says Richard Young, Physical Education Director. "A whole range of tempting and exciting activities is safely open to youngsters as well as adults who can swim" Young says. "Boating, water skiing, skin-diving and others. None of these are safe for the youngster who can swim or not Yet -it accounts for most of the national increase in drowning since 1960.
