Then who's to tell who did it And who's to blame? Lawrence W. Schultz Consumers' Corner Budgeting Planning your budget entails figures, facts, and serious decisions Following are some questions you might ask yourself when organizing your financial af fairs: How much did it cost to run your cans) during the previous year? Gas and oil0 Maintenance7 In surance0 Depreciation7 ' How much could these figures increase during the next year? How about public transportation?' What were your major finance charges in the year just passed? Which items7 Which months during the last year were the most expensive? Which items made those months so expensive7 For example, heating or air-conditioning? Do the utility companies have a budgeting plan 1 can utilize? What costs can I spread out over 12 months7 HONORED FOR ACHIEVEMENT-Two sales associates of Gateway Associates, Inc., Realtors, are honored for their outstanding achievements in real estate sales during the past year. Loyce McNutt, left, of the firm's Crystal Lake office repeated her performance of the previous year by participating in more than $1 million of closed real estate transactions in 1974. Her record entitles her to a membership in the Million Dollar club of the Illinois Association of Real Estate Boards for the second time. Joyce Burr of Gateway's McHenry office was also involved in more than $1 million in closed sales, and has joined the Million Dollar club for the first time. 1974 was her second year in the real estate profession. NEED VOLUNTEERS Since we are about to start the tornado season the Civil Defense director would like to have more volunteers to help him. The folks who went to the weather watch program last week found it very interesting and informative. Let's not wait until a disaster strikes to get more people involved. As you have seen on T.V. over the weekend what a tornado can do. Let's be prepared now!! If anyone can help call 385-2696. , i BIRTHDAYS , Leo Backs celebrated his birthday on the twenty-first. Mary Jane Nowak's birthday \fcas on the twenty-second. Here's hoping you both had a very happy day and many, many more. HAPPY EASTER I want to wish all the folks in the village a very Happy Easter. It's called a vacuum chamber weld tester. It's not too fancy, and it doesn't have any microcircuits or chrome trim, but it could save us more than $100,000 a year. Ed Steeve, Commonwealth Edison engineer, designed it; Carl Knutson, Assistant Shop Superintendent, helped put it together at our May wood Technical Center. The vacuum chamber consists of a short, transparent plastic cylinder that's slightly larger in circumference than the pipe it's testing. We fasten it around the weld, where the leaks are likely to occur, then seal it airtight. The space between pipe and cylinder is then partially filled with a clear liquid (usually water) and a vacuum pump is attached to remove the air. If there are any leaks in the weld, the air from inside the pipe will create a column of telltale bubbles. It's a simple process, but vitally important. When we put cables in underground pipes, we expect them to last for many years. A pin-hole leak would result in a cable failure, a loss of power, and a loss of valuable man-hours in repair work. We have been testing welds by other methods, which were time-consuming, and cost as much as $14,000 for every mile of pipe. But our new vacuum chamber device will do the same job for a fraction of that cost. The money we save will help keep your rates down. And the time we save will give our Commonwealth Edison engineers a chance to do a little more of that valuable experimentation. v X Commonwealth Edison Working for you. \ Sunday 16:1-4 Monday 17:1-5 Tuesday Isaiah 53:4-9 Wednesday Job 19:21-26 Thursday Colossians 3:1-4 * Friday Luke 24:30-35 • Saturday John 20:24-29 Triqmphqiit '*11 ©hi* I arose early today for a quiet walk in my garden. Faraway, church bells in the valley glorified the morning. Suddenly, it seemed I saw another garden, another woman. The beauties of the morn meant nothing to her, for He, who had given meaning to her life, had died on Calvary. Weeping, she turned, "tell me where thou hast laid him . . ." "Mary." By one single word joy was reborn. "Masterl" she said, and knew her Lord lived. Now, the tumultuous triumph of that hour rang across the centuries and swelled within mel The Lord is risen. Come join the mighty chorus. Attend your church -- learn the joyous promise of God's love.
