SPONSORED BY: GL'ETTLEK'S SERVICE STATION 6 1 THINK ABOUT IT! BOB JUSTEN Did you ever wonder where, how and when the strange custom of April Fool's Day began? Here's the story . . . It did not originate in our land. The tradition dates back for more than 400 years. It began in France after the adoption of the Gregorian calendar in 1564. Prior to then, the New Year celebration began March 21 and ended on April 1. Some people continued to cele brate the New Years on April 1 instead of January 1 after the adoption of the new calendar in 1564. Those people , in the language of those days, became Known as April fools. Erom France, the custom spread to England and became a popular jokester day in the 1600's To relieve the tension in the turmoil of our times, occasional hours for g<x>d, clean , harmless fun and laughter is helpful. The thought reminds us of what Ella Wheeler Wilcox wrote - "I^iugh and the world laughs with you, Weep and you weep alone - For the sad old earth must borrow its mirth, But has trouble enough of its own" C O A S T T O C O A S T S T O R E S ***« total hardware FOR THE DO-IT-YOURSELFER HOW TO HANG WALL COVERINGS CLINIC THURSDAY, APRIL 10, 1975 7:00 - 9:00 P.M. He never trusses a Sunday". In The Deceiver, adult Christians point fingers ol blame at the church's youth. They reassess their viewpoints, however, when a series of events turn the accusing fingers back in their direction.
