PAGE 16 - PLAINDEALER-FRIDAY, APRIL 11, 1975 Whispering Oaks (Whispers from the "Oaks") Marilynn Hamilton / 385-6962 Residents Offer Bouquets To Snow Removal Crews Residents of Whispering < );iks wish our city of McHenry to know how very much we all appreciate the great job done by I he snow removal crews in itie big storm. Many other larger towns could take a lesson from our well-run little town. - . VACATIONERS RETURN . One of the pleasures of early spring is meeting old friends at the bank or at the store, who have just returned from Florida or other exciting places. Jim and Dorothy Williamson of Melrose Court have just returned from their Winter home in Holiday, Fla. Jim is home in time "to get his crops in and his orchard sprayed (3 small apple trees)" Jim and Lorraine Dickens are neighbors to Jim and Dorothy Williamson at home on Melrose Court and were neigh bors in Holiday, Fla. The Dickens' timing for their return was "a little too early" as they arrived home in time to view the stranded cars and other ravages of "the storm." A good winter of golf and just enjoying the sun filled the days for the Dickens. JOHNSONSRETURN Mr. and Mrs. Bruce (Bess) Johnson of Chesterfield Drive are home again from a 3 month stay in Gulfport, Fla. Fishing, dancing, bridge and theatre parties, topped by attending a beautiful performance of the Spanish Riding School featuring the world famous Lippinzaner horses of Vienna. The return was a leisurely 55 day drive spent in doing in teresting things like exploring St. Augustine, Fla., the oldest city in the U.S. and on to Asheville, N.C., where they enjoyed a tour of the Reginald Vanderbilt Mansion. T£ie home is a superb palace surrounded by acres and acres of land scaped gardens fashioned after the famous gardens of the Schoenbrun Palace in Vienna. The mansion is filled with art treasures, furniture and tapestries imported from Europe. "The palace is an exquisite experience, so clean and polished, not the dusty, moldy, old, old places of Europe." HANNERS RETURN HOME Rev. Bill Hanner and his Rose of Oakwood Drive arrived home to be greeted by our storm after a grand 4 month vacation on the Mississippi Gulf Coast. Interested fans of Rev. Hannner's followed his "tour" in his Plaindealer columns. While in Mississippi, Mrs. Hanner had the op portunity to attend several landscape seminars'and spoke to the Garden Club in Biloxi and in Ocean Springs on land scaping design, a subject in which she is a well known authority. After leaving "Old Miss" the Hanners visited friends in Miami. Winter Park, Fla., and Augusta, Ga. Two beautiful browns, usually vacations are measured in tans, attest to the fact that it has been a marvelous winter lor the Hanners. RETURN FROM CAMPING TRIP Jack and Eleanor Gibbs of Oakwood Drive are home again after a 6 week camping trip through Texas. They spent time on the Gulf Coast visiting Harlingen, Brownsville and had a great time in McAllen where they camped in an orange and grapefruit grove. How is that for going to the source, fruit right off the tree for breakfast. In San Antonio, they explored the Alamo ar)d "the famous River Walk is really something to see." Their trip home was routed through Lake Charles, Louisiana and Memphis, Tennessee. Jack has returned home from his trip a confirmed camper. GOOD NEWS Good news is that John Albrecht of Front Royal Court and Les Schroeder of Cum berland Circle are now home from McHenry hospital and taking it very easy after their heart scares. We are so glad that you are back with us. SPRING FLING McHenry Senior Citizens termed their bus trip to Chicago and the Museum of Science and Industry last Wednesday as "John Doerr's Spring Fling." ' John is currently serving the Senior Citizens as their tour director. The day was enjoyed by all until 3 p.m. and the return trip to McHenry in THE siorm began with all sorts of minor adventures. The "Trippers" counted some 200 stalled cars on their return trip but finally arrived home safe^and sound about 10:45. Then John found his car piled high with snow and with the keys locked INSIDE! But a Good Samaritan took him home for the second set of keys and all ended well, a day that will not soon be forgotten.
