As bangle bracelets are a fashion favorite for spring, make them out of card board tubing or papier- mache. Cut cardboard to desired size and coat with gesso to seal the surface. Select decals in desired patterns and hold over surface to decide place ment. To apply the decal, first trim outline with*small scis sors and make tiny cuts on borders to fit curved sur faces. Select water-release decal and soak it in bowl of water about 10 seconds. Slide design off the backing paper, face up, and apply it to bracelet surface. Smooth from the center and work out to the edges, using a dry sponge or cloth to ab sorb excess moisture. After drying, coat entire piece with clear varnish for dur ability. For pins, cut out designs and apply to coated card board with glue. If the un derside will show -- as on the butterfly -- place decals back-to-back and trim edg es with manicure scissors. Score center and fold out wings, then coat with clear varnish. After drying, glue on pin blanks, rings, or use pendant findings (from craft stores) to attach to choker. Stained glass jewelry is made by applying Tex- Decor press-on transfers to clear acetate, which is first coated with white glue. Fruit designs of j apple, strawberries or cherries are cut out, applied from cen ter out to edges. Effect is highlighted by outlining borders with heatless liq uid solder (found at craft stores). Glue pin blanks to back, or punch hole and at tach pendant finding and chain for big apple neck lace. To make floral belt, buy an inexpensive piece of suede or plain belt at dime- store. Cut out bright flower decals and trace on card board, then cut out a few pieces of cardboard and glue together for heavy backing. Seal cardboard with gesso, then apply water release decals -- as previously instructed -- to cardboard and coat with varnish. Use strong white glue to attach flowers to suede, and decorate with tiny mirrors, beads or shells that are also glued onto belt, v These and many other delightful jewelry pieces for personal wear or to give as gifts can be created quickly and cost only pen nies. Over 100 arts and crafts decals by Meyercord -- everything from flowers, animals to little people -- are available in local paint, hardware, craft and variety stores. WOULD MOM LIKE A WIG?
