PAGE 12-SUPPLEMENT TO McHENRY PLAINDEALEK-MAY 2, 1975 Delight Mother With A Dishwasher-Work Center NO PRESENT LIKE THE TIME FOR MOTHER ; When Mother's Day rolls around, Dad may be scratching his head for a gift idea. He should know there's no gift like a dish washer to tell his wife, day in and day out, that she's appreciated. Combined with that dish washer gift might be .a mon ey - saving, do - it - yourself project that can turn the kitchen, a place where just about every mother spends a lot of time, into an effi cient work center. Kitchens, like cars, can come in stripped - down models -- functional, but that's all -- or top-of-the- line models with all the ex tras. The kitchen that the handyman in the accom panying photo has put to gether is definitely first rate, especially' when it comes to convenience. The Maytag dishwasher has been built-in 18 inches off the floor, making the ap pliance easy to load and unload -- there's no stoop ing. The cabinet panel direct ly below the dishwasher comes off to make things easy for the serviceman, too, should repair work be required. For still more conven ience, there's a roll-around appliance cart that pulls out of the cabinet next to the table. It's equipped with a warming tray on the top surface and adjustable shelves to store all the small appliances needed to make kitchen chores as easy as possible. The < art features its own strip outlet. It's simple to plug the one cord into the wall, then plug the appliances into the power strip on the cart. But the kitchen doesn't stop there. Convenient dish storage has been planned in a pull-out section of cab inet above the cart. Shelves are adjustable to store any size dinnerware or serving pieces. And the location of this storage unit is ideal. Dishes are taken out close to the table for meals -- then it's an easy reach from dishwasher to cabinet to put them away. Though this kitchen is decorated in the most tra ditional style possible, it's anything but a traditional kitchen in the design de- There's no time like the present for thinking about your own Mother's Day present, and no present like the time either! Instead of asking for some object which in all probability you don't really need, why not ask for a really priceless gift of time. Tell the family you'd like one hour a day all to your self. Pick an hour that fits into the schedule best -- after breakfast, perhaps, when you have the house to yourself, or in the middle of the afternoon. Hang a DO NOT DISTURB sign on the door, and there you are -- free to study in peace, read in the bathtub, and enjoy blissful privacy. If you've been hesitating to enroll in a night school class because you think you can't keep up with the homework, think again. Your free hour can help a lot. This might be the per fect year to treat yourself to a new skill. Sign up for that academic course you never got around to taking ..in school, or investigate the possibilities in arts and crafts. Would you like to take a course in watercol- ors? Learn how to work on your own car? Study re- upholstering so you can re do the living room at mini mal cost? Pick up a catalog of courses offered by the local college or business school. You'll be amazed at the new worlds open to you. If you're feeling frazzled and run-down, use your private hour to unwind and "recreate" yourself. For some women, this means a soak in perfumed hot water while listening to music or reading maga zines. For others, it may mean a leisurely afternoon exercise session -- half an hour spent on a mat or bath towel, stretching and limbering up -- followed by a shower, fresh makeup and hairdo, and a change into something pretty for dinner. It needn't be fancy to give you a lift. Slip a long skirt over a bodysuit, tie a taffeta ribbon in your hair, and an evening-at- home becomes something special. Saving time for yourself is a constructive thing to do. You'll feel better about yourself, and the whole family will benefit; so don't spoil your serenity with twinges of guilt. Relax and enjoy. In order to save this pri vate time, you'll want to be as efficient as possible with your time the rest of the day. Find shortcuts wher ever you can. If you're watching your weight (and aren't we all?) by all means take advantage of the de licious time-saving Slender diet food from Carnation. Mix with 6 oz. fresh whole milk or drink right from the pull-top can for a fast, sat isfying "mini meal" with all the flavor and food energy you need -- and only 225 calories. Have you been putting off a diet because it seems like too much trou ble? With Slender, there's no time like the present. partment. There was no putting the sink under a window here. "SEW" THOUGHTFUL GIFTS FOR MOM Chances are, Mother loves to sew -- but she may not like the clutter 'round her sewing table. Inexpens ive gifts can help her or ganize her sewing supplies so she can find them quick ly when she needs them. Sewing baskets are han dy, attractive depositories for scissors, pins, needles, etc. They vary in size from small hand-baskets to larg er, more stationary kinds. Youngsters with limited budgets and basic sewing skills can even whip up a sewing organizer them selves. A colorful piece of sturdy material, with pock-' ets stitched on to hold threads, thimbles, snaps, and other supplies, can be hung on the wall, in easy reach for sewing Mothers.
