BAKE-OFF TESTING - The Valley-Hi Jinks bake-off testing swings into high gear as Louise Watson, Leona Skinkle and Elsie Layne of the Crystal Lake Woman's club gather home baked goods into freezer space. The bakery booth will open promptly at 10 a.m. Saturday, May 10, as the annual festival begins at the county nursing home in Hartland. Women baking contributors needing freezer space may call the nursing home at 338-0312. An annual event, the Valley-Hi Jinks is participated in by various women's clubs and county businesses and industry. Proceeds this year will help defray the cost of a mini-bus to transport elderly patients and their wheelchairs.' "Even after Mr. McCloud was told there was no more room, a new member was admitted to the committee. This new member, recom mended by a County board member, did not even know the name of the organization he was supposed to be representing. "Another representative of the County board and a member of the Special Zoning committee, acting as advisor at the meeting, replied when asked a question that he was not familiar with the Proposed Zoning ordinance and couldn't answer any questions regar ding it. "Committee Chairman Arnold May stated on April 17 that there was a maximum of twenty-seven members allowed on the committee. At the second meeting (April 17), seventeen members attended; at the third meeting (April 24), fifteen members attended, including the new member. "Why can't an interested group representing a large number of voters replace one of the uninterested members who because of their absence represents no one? Aquarium Club Lists Speaker For Meeting The McHenry Aquarium club will meet Monday, May 5, at Shepherd of the Hills Lutheran church at 8 p.m. Visitors are welcome. Speaker for the meeting will be Jan Aim of the Almquatic Pet store in Niles. He is a breeder of orchids and will be bringing some of the flowers to the meeting. After the meeting, there will be a mini-auction of various fish and equipment-.
