Miller and Son, local monument dealers and memorial craftsmen, now have in operation one of the latest lettering devices known to the trade, a Pangborn Sandblast machine. The new equipment, besides the sandblast, consists of a. 6 x 6 double acting air compresser, a large air tank, fans and several other minor devices all of which have their own work to perform. Dr. S.J. Fowler, local chiropractor who maintains offices in this city and Wood­ stock, has completed arrangements whereby he will conduct an office at Wauconda. Miss Rose Worts is a new employee at the local exchange of the Illinois Bell Telephone company, having started work there last week., Ablert and Fred Kunz have purchased from Herman Schaefer the transfer business which the latter has conducted here during the past few years. Mr . Schaefer retains the East Side Service station and has also taken the local agency for the Star line of cars. The Service station is located just east of the Fox river bridge. One in the Hickory-Grange subdivision situated on the east shore of Fox river was sold to Morgan Jensen of Chicago. A meeting of the tavern keepers of the township was held at the Riverside hotel, Tuesday evening, at which time an association of tavern keepers was formed and will be known as "The McHenry County Tavern Keepers Protective association," Temporary officers were elected with R.E. Johnson, Bald Knob, as president and John E. Freund, secretary and treasurer. . " "'• Mrs. Adams and daughter, Christine, visited in the home of former's son at DesPlaines last weekend. Miss Christine Adams spent Saturday in Chicago. John E. Freund has taken over Buch's Tavern on Riverside drive and will open this week for the season. Mrs. J. Hackenberger was the first to report catching a prize fish in the Fox Lake Region fish contest which opened May 15. The one half pound crappie was caught at the south end of Pistakee Bay and had a tag attached to the gill bearing the name "Cinema Grill." Dwight Dowell returned to the home of his parents, the Clyde Dowells, on Sunday after being treated for injuries sustained in a high school baseball game Friday. Eight stitches were required to close a cut above his eye. He also suffered a concussion. On Sunday, May 28, the Ayres and Kathryn Davis three ring wild animal circus is scheduled to appear for afternoon and evening performances. This circus with its headquarters in Dixon began as an indoor circus five years ago. At the dinner given by the Kiwanis club of McHenry township in honor of the top students of the grammar schools of McHenry township, Chauncey H. Duker, superintendent of McHenry schools, gave a very inspiring talk to the young people about their next four years in high school. Mayor George P. Freund has proclaimed May 20 as "Armed Forces Day"' in McHenry and has asked home owners and businessmen to have flags flying on that dafe. King of Cooney Heights, is recovering at home from a concussion which her family said she suffered while she was riding on a school bus in that subdivision. John Smith of Johnsburg road will be ninety years old on May 18, his nine living children will host an open house celebration to honor him in the community club hall.
